New here-tire help
hello everyone. just started riding. like 4 days ago lol. just bought myself my first bike, a 2001 yamaha yzf-600.
i need a new rear tire. does anybody have any recommendations for me. only looking to spend at most 150. i obviously dont need a racing tire. just a quality tire, with great tread. |
Are you the guy I sent here? welcome
|
Rear tire size 160/60-ZR17. I dont think the ZR is a necessity, because the Z rating is a lower rating than most current tires. Someone else may need to back me up on that one, but I think that is correct.
Bridgestone Battlax BT-021 Rear Tire. - $155 Replacement for the stock OEM BT-020 Michelin Pilot Road 2 - $125 Michelin Pilot Power - $113 Pirelli Diablo - $120 Dunlop Sportmax Q2 - $130 Anything else will be too expensive, or are off brand. I always buy online, get the free shipping, and have a small shop put on for real cheap. Saves a ton from big dealer full pricing and labor prices.... |
yes i think so. u had the 954 lol
|
pork chop- the tire size is a 180/55/17 if that matters
|
Q2s are great

What tire is on the front and how old is it? There's more to a tire than the tread depth. Make sure there aren't any cracks or dryrot on the front. You do NOT want a front tire blowout, especially if you've only been riding for a very short time. I'm also not a fan of mixing different tires front and rear, but some will say it's not a problem.

Pilot Power $117 (my vote)
Continental Conti Motion $105 BT-090 $135 (even though I am personally anti-Bridgestone) Metzeler Sportec M3 $117 Pirelli Diablo $117 |

Welcome to the forum. I ride a yzf-600 as well, I have a 170 bridgestone bt-016 on the rear and a stock size matching tire on the front, and have no complaints. If youre interested in a bike specific forum as well, PM me. I dont post there but Ive been reading it since I started riding and its great for anything you could want to know about the yzf. As far as general riding and bikes, this forum has a lot cooler people on it.

That said, the engineers put a 160 on there for a reason... I'd probably just get a 160 and be done with it. |
