Here's some pics of my new Akuma helmet along with my HJC AC12 Carbon for comparison. Note: I installed blue LEDs in my HJC for fun last summer.

Oh I've had it for a few weeks now. I've about 700 miles on it and I have to say that I like it for the most part. My only complaint is with the shield changing system. I'll be glad to get photochromatic shield. It's not a Scorpion that's for sure! Other than that it's comfortabe and smaller than alot of other brands shell-wise. The noise levels aren't too bad considering there's 6 vents which work quite well. The LEDs are cool and the front one is super bright. The rear lights high light the faces in the back.

BTW I also bought the Sparx helmet as well. If anyone in interested I can send some pics. Decent lid for under $100.

WARputer 04-15-2008 03:58 AM

Nice, very Nice Tig ! SO U don't like the Sparx lid ?

Rider 04-15-2008 07:35 AM

Nice lid Tig.

LaFemmes 04-15-2008 08:13 AM

Nice, I like it.

z06boy 04-15-2008 08:54 AM

Nice...oh yea...I've never made it back to Draggin' Jeans but hopefully I will before too long.

NeonspeedRT 04-15-2008 08:57 AM

So you like the Akuma better then the HJC carbon fiber? I've had the HJC carbon fiber helmet for about 2 years now. I absolutly love it. I just got an Arai Hayes replica and that's amazing. They both vent great and are super light.

I picked up an Akuma at a local dealership and was shocked at how heavy it was in comparison.

Pick up a Suomy... those are some of the lightest out there.

Actually the HJC AC-12 carbon fiber is the lightest helmet on the market (as of 2007). It weighed a few grams less then the Arai RX7 Corsair.

Both of those are even lighter then a Sumoy. Plus Suomy is having financial issues right now and not even honoring warranties.

fpzx10 04-15-2008 09:43 AM

Good looking lid, Tig. I'll post a review of my scorpion after this weekend.

fnfalman 04-15-2008 10:02 AM

I just bought a new helmet too, but it's a boring black Shoei Multitec flip-up. My Nolan was getting really stinky so I figured it needs a break. A LONGGGGG BREAK!!!

Nah it's ok,it doesn't want to let me install my radar detector setup easily but otherwise it's ok. The visor mech is "clunky" and the shields are "pro-fog" as opposed to anti-fog! Here's a pic...can you tell I'm getting the hang of "attaching" photos?

Hmmmm...I just picked them both up and they seem similar. All the reviewer marveled at how "light" the Akuma was. I'll get a scale later and test it out for shits and giggles. Anyway, weight isn't the only way I evaluate a helmet.

the chi 04-15-2008 11:34 AM

love the clean look of the sparx...but damn Tig, you ARE a gear whore!! I think you have more shit than I do!

z06boy 04-15-2008 11:37 AM

Thanks! Do Scorpion's come with a chin curtain now? That is my only complaint with the Scorpion, too much air came in under the chin. Chin guard fixed it right up.

Yea one of the benefits of not having a live in girlfriend....I can do whatever I want to the Apt!

bombadillo 04-15-2008 12:24 PM

I dig my ac-12 I got a year ago. Light, comfortable, breathable. The aftermarket visors suck though. The stocker is great for fog so whatever hjc puts on those visors is great, but the aftermarket from motorcyclesuperstore.com sucked.

This is retarded but HJC offers some of it's visors in nofog and regular configurations. Who wouldn't want no fog? I have a gold chrome (reg),a smoke(no fog),a smoke gradient(no fog) and a high visability(no fog). I think you just need to get a smoke no fog and you'll be happy!

Yup, I agree with what Tigger said. The mirrored shields from HJC only come in standard. But all of their other shields come in anti fog or regular. So make sure you buy the right one.

For my AC-12 I have a clear, a dark smoke, a high def amber, and the pinlock visor with dark smoke and high def inserts.

Mr Lefty 04-15-2008 04:19 PM

I really Like that Sparx helmet... I like the design alot!
