that is the ultimate highside

Mr Lefty 03-27-2011 07:31 PM

actually that was a pretty tame highside....

derf 03-27-2011 07:36 PM

I always wondered what would happen if a wheel just fell off. That actually is pretty much what I thought would happen.

tommymac 03-27-2011 07:38 PM

ripped right off the damn hub

Thats either Power, or a Faulty wheel

derf 03-27-2011 07:51 PM

well that looks like more bullshit than I would be willing to put up with considering how much a wheel like that must cost. I'm guessing that it is some kind of super exotic material like rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, or something like carbon fiber

Whitham said its most likely fatigue due to overuse as small teams like supersonic can't afford to change out their wheels on a regular basis

tommymac 03-27-2011 07:55 PM

dont think these guys are too concerned about cost. I am wondering why the wheel failed like that, was it an older wheel, had it been crashed previously or something else.

Sixxxxer 03-27-2011 07:55 PM

I'd put it on my wall...Lol

Thats not surprising. I wonder how long those oz and cf wheels last with multiple tire changes and all the abuse they go through.

Can you imagine? When I first saw it I thought someone just fucked up and didn't torque the castle nut, or missed the pin. Then, saw the pictures.

That was my first thought as well along with, "Someone in the pit crew is getting their ass beat after that one"

But then I realized that there's probably nothing they could have done short of replacing the full assembly ahead of time (hindsight = 20/20 etc etc)

Whoever inspected the wheel is in shit now.

I figured it was some sort of failure, when I first saw it it was just the wheel, and no spokes or hub in the middle rolling down the track.

derf 03-28-2011 05:47 PM

The real question is weather or not he can still wheelie? Or is he gonna be a professional model/stuntergirl?

azoomm 03-29-2011 12:29 PM

Talk about wheel failure...

I'll bet the next batch of that particular wheel has slightly thicker spokes.
