Took some bikes for a test ride today

I tested the Triumph Tiger 800 XC first. It was smooth and had more power than I thought it would have. The transmission was great and everything about the drivetrain felt "silky".

Then I tried to BMW F800GS... first turnoff were the controls on the levers. Dammit BMW snobs, just leave the controls alone! It was tough for me to maintain a constant throttle and hit the right turn signal and/or cancel the signal as they are both under the throttle. The next thing I didn't like: it was buzzy. Lots of vibration and just felt like a constant buzz. Third, not as much power and the transmission is jerky (I promise it wasn't my wrist).

Then after work I took the Triumph back out and over to some gravel/dirt areas:

It was fun and I think it will be my next bike. Unfortunately, everyone is sold out, but I'm ok with waiting.

I saw a 08 fz1 today for 9k, holly cow.

I liked the bmw more than the last gen tiger, but I understand that they greatly improved the tiger this year

goodluck with the search, I wish I could take that FZ1 off your hands but now is not the time...

There was an 02 for 7k also. Really the whole place was over priced and the 20 mins I was in the store nobody spoke to me, and I was the only person in the store. The 2 most overpriced bikes they had was a tw200 for 4.5k and a klx250 sm for 6k. They also had a bike I've never seen before, a kawasaki zx14000, thats fourteen thousand cc's, and it was written in 3 places like that so someone really meant it

derf 04-19-2011 08:42 PM

The zx14000 was actually a zx14

I've always wanted to try the Triumph Tiger 800XC. No place to really do that around here

Not possible.

Everything that BMW makes is perfect.

There is nothing better than a BMW ADV tourer except another BMW ADV tourer.

Maybe you got the two confused?

I'm not understanding how a parallel twin 800 is "buzzy".

What is the price difference between the Tiger and the F800?

Ask BMW how they accomplished it.

About $2,500.

azoomm 04-21-2011 11:50 AM

My husband just rode my F800 after riding his HyperMotard. He says the BMW is not buzzy

I like the new Tiger - it's a VAST improvement over the last model. It's nice to see an OEM pay attention to feedback and actually DO something about it.

Hey Moira, I forget, was the new Tiger part of that Triumph demo at Lone Star or was it not on the demo truck yet?
If it was, I really should've taken it for a spin.

Yes.

And, yes...

Lone Star has one for you to sign up and take out. Just sayin'

It's OK to wait for a superior bike.
