I broke the KLR yesterday
 
Well, the chain anyway. Was riding a local trail yesterday all of a sudden the bike had issues where it would bog down every few tire rotations. It was like a light switch, everything fine - then problem. Stop, get off the bike, and I see that the chain is sitting up in top of the sprocket for a few teeth and pulled the chain 1 tooth tighter. That threw me into limp home (12 miles) mode. I loosened the chain so it didnt over tighten and fuck anything else up, made it 2 miles to my house then the chain slipped off. Put it back on and went into super limp home mode

Its a 22k chain, probably lived its life. I think a rock got between it and the sprocket and tweaked it

No, its the stock chain that came from the factory as far as I can tell

22k is pretty cool I guess.

Must be all that horsepower :D

I only got 9000 miles out of the stock chain & sprockets on the Husky. AL sprocket, big bore thumper and no cush drive will do that.

I'm not complaining, but damn, the chain wasnt even close to the end of its stretch. And yes the massive amounts of horsepower is known quite well in KLR circles for tearing chains into pieces

remember to replace all 3 units... both front & rear sprockets and a new chain.

What if one of them is still good? That's not a very derf way to do things.

It's the power that gets the chain! I did the same thing on mine with an O-ring chain and just happened to capture it on video!

Very true zoom. The only one you MAY be able to skimp on is the front as it is usually hardened steel. However, it will cause you to wear out your new chain faster. The 3 pieces wear into each other and if you put a new chain on old sprockets that new chain will wear poorly and its life will end sooner.

No cush drive? Any idea why that is?
