Welcome to the forum. I ride a yzf-600 as well, I have a 170 bridgestone bt-016 on the rear and a stock size matching tire on the front, and have no complaints. If youre interested in a bike specific forum as well, PM me. I dont post there but Ive been reading it since I started riding and its great for anything you could want to know about the yzf. As far as general riding and bikes, this forum has a lot cooler people on it.

Yes and yes. The stock for the yzf600 is a 160. A lot of people put 180s on them but I didnt want to change the handling characteristics that much so I split the difference at 170.

There's a question of how that affects the seating of the bead by running wider tires on a narrower rim... Normally, if you go with a wider tire, the handling becomes dull and the bike fights you more turning in... However, the profile is altered when you put a wider tire on a narrower rim, so it can actually quicken the turning... Take all this with a grain of salt, I don't have any personal experience here... just what I've read.

That said, the engineers put a 160 on there for a reason... I'd probably just get a 160 and be done with it.
