Be safe bro. I will ride in any conditions except for high wind and lightning.

Yikes!

Curb 07-29-2009 02:12 PM

sounds like a normal day down here

wuss...I've ridden in a tropical storm with sustained winds of 55mph...that was fun

Dave 07-29-2009 02:16 PM

how much further north are you tommy? I love riding home in driving rain

I am up in valhalla right now (right by westchester medical center) I have ot head south into brooklyn later on. the real nastiness looks like its an hr or so away. theyre pouring concrete here at the site so they will pull the guys out when the thunderstorm monitors go off but will prolly have them back out after it passes.

if I leave around 6 or 7 I think I will be ok the nastiness will be past and looks like more rain further south so hopefully I would beat that to brooklyn.

Curb stop being a showoff, anyone can ride in that stuff down there, up here we have these things called curves where you have to turn your motorcycle :nee:

Still more than floriduh

I will need to get my ass in gear and get my TL back together sooner as opposed to later too.

There are some decent twisties on LI but for anything good you need to hit bear mtn and further north.

So far so good here lot of thunder but not much wind and little or no rain so far. radar has the nasty parts staying south of here. Looks like queens, BK and Long Island will get pummeled though.

funny you should mention that - I rode in this morning and while I was in the office the sky opened up. I rode home before it got any worse after looking at the weather - in mesh gear

I have a rain jacket but nothing to cover my pants. looks like the metro area will get hit harder than up north. Its raining prety good right now but still no wind hail or tornadoes.

Sounds like my ride home from work yesterday, high winds and lightning in heavy down pour, took shelter at an auto parts store waited 10 minutes or so for it to pass on by, completely soaked and wet once home

wildchild 07-29-2009 03:55 PM

I have ridden home in a flood once. That was interesting. stay to the high roads. :tremble:

just beware the sliding cars.

my front tire is on its last legs too:tremble:

rain has stopped here, there may be one more cell that hits us but it looks like it will stay south so i think I will be ok, just have ot watch for standing water on the roads.

Looks like its getting worse on the radar too with more t-storms developing. Still no word on when I am leaving but I may be able to thread the needle if i am lucky with getting to brooklyn. There are some clear areas. Righ tnow my ride down to the bridges is nasty but once over them into brooklyn and queens it looks ok for now.

Either way I will prolly wait it out since I can prety much stay here till 8 and make my shift at 9.

derf 07-29-2009 08:14 PM

Dave 07-29-2009 09:00 PM

turns out i left the visor open all day = sticking my head in a puddle. my commute ride is about a mile but it still sucked. lol.

tommymac 07-29-2009 09:00 PM

I tend to just say screw it if its gg to rain. Of coarse over the past 2 weeks, I don't take my bike to work cause it may rain and I don't want to be wet. But by the time I get home its either raining or going to rain... so I haven't rode my bike in over 2 weeks. Stupid ass weather!

I have been ridiculously lucky the last few weeks. been rolling the dice with the weather. the bike has been rained on numerous times but fortunatley not while I was riding it :)

i am so due to get caught in a monsoon though.

Tom

derf 07-30-2009 01:01 AM

I just looked at my riding jacket, I've been home since 8pm (now 1 am), and it is still dripping wet

Gas Man 07-30-2009 01:05 AM

Yeah I do and don't care about the bike itself getting wet. I just don't want to be.

Same here. if I can make it to work dry I will usualy take a chance. Dont care as much if I get rained on going home provided I have some sembelance of rain gear.

I almost left mine home yesterday. i took off the hard bags and almost forgot to put it in my tank bag. Glad i brought it because otherwise it would have poured on me and I would be blue right now from my jacket bleeding onto my skin

Looks like the ride home this morning should be nice at least.

wildchild 07-30-2009 09:08 AM

sounds like you got pretty lucky. Have to love those days.
