GPS recomendations

Since I dont own a smartphone I am lookin gat getting a gps for the GT prior to the rally. Was kicking around the zumos but are a bit pricey. been reading about people using the nuvis on thier bikes with mixed success.

Any thoughts/recomendations based on what you guys have/use

I picked up a zumo 550 off craigslist for $300, just need to add the motorcycle mount which is gonna cost me another $50 with the electrical hook up.

Took me 4 days of search through all the craigslist within 250 miles

I think theres a refurbished one on ebay for 400 and change. I think the GT has something along the lines of a powerlet cord type adapter and/or accesory plug already there. I am going to talk to the service guy at triumph about it on friday when I bring it back in for its first service.

I hear ya on costs... YIKES. I bought my zumo 660 for about that much in money as well. Then another $130 for specialized mount.

Now I'm looking at another $275+ to wire it completely into the HD. Using the HD headset for a phone microphone as it's bluetoothed to the GP and allowing the GPS to be primary audio regardless of what I'm doing in the HD system. Then plumbing in my blackberry for additional audio in.

Who knows...

I picked up a Magellan Crossover refurbed for $225 a couple years ago. While not bike specific it is weather tight (meant to be used on boats and in hiking as well as automotive) they can behad fairly cheap.

You should have an accessory outlet on the front and back of the bike IIRC. There are a few different bar mount options for your bike. The power outlet I recommend is an adapter that makes the BMW outlet into a standard cigarette lighter size - that way you can use many of the plugs that already come with most accessories. I have another adapter that changes the BMW plug to USB to charge both my phone, GPS, Cardo, etc...

I am kinda figuring on biting the bullet and getting a zumo, now my next thing is getting a bluetooth headset for the helmet. Not sure where to start on that one.
