Ever wonder why motorcycle racing isn't on TV more?
Wonder no more...This is a photo from the AMA Infenon race in California...Not much of a fan showing :( With a poor showing like this, NO channel is going to go out of their way to put racing on the air...

I'd argue that's only part of the problem. There's virtually no exposure, no advertising, and no constant push to keep the sport in the consciousness of people. People who ride motorcycles may stumble across it while trying to learn more about the culture, but I'm willing to bet that most people have no idea that such a thing exists.

You also never know what section of the track this is. It could be an unpopular spot to watch. There are parts of Indy that are empty, and others that are full for the gp. We sat in what I thought was the second best section in the whole place, and there may have been 40 ppl in it. Yet other crappy spots were slammed full.
Yes its an exposure problem. There isn't alot of advertising dollars spent on moto racing. At the same time casual motorcycle fans aren't pulled in. someone like my mom who rides with her boyfriend woukd never go to a roadracing event because it's "stupid you can't see the whole track" :lol She would much rather go see a moto cross event. |
I think ama has also gone way down hill since the DMG takeover. All the big names are gone and all you have are the old backmarkers, a handful of has beens and some young guys who wil lbolt for europe once they have any sort of success.

I chuckle, because while I only literally have ever tried to organize motorcycle racing on a very tiny scale, my experience nonetheless taught me that organizing motorcycle racers is a lot like herding fucking cats.

AMA still races?
