Saw this on Gixxer.com. Definitely a dumb avoidable mistake but one that anyone could make. Warning pics are gross.

Shit just realized Racer X posted this as well.

Yes I am aware. I can't delete the thread however.

Riceaholic 09-23-2009 01:40 PM

That's a painful lesson.

Poor guy, he's all thumbs.

JC

HurricaneHeather 09-23-2009 03:47 PM

One of the girls on CF did that. Her thumb has a nice big chunk taken out of it.

She rides a gsxr too.

She's probably in that thread somewhere, but it's blocked so I can't see.

marko138 09-23-2009 04:03 PM

Ouch.

Amber Lamps 09-23-2009 04:04 PM

Ha I've done that a thousand times in the past. Now I just use a grunge brush and rotate the wheel by hand. Doing it using engine power just makes a bigger mess IMHO. As far as losing fingers, well if you put the rag on the sprocket or on the chain as it LEAVES the sprocket...

To be honest, the best way to do this is with a grunge brush.
and chain cleaner. I bet this guy changes v belts on a car while it's running.

Um... that was Megan

She's also a mod over on Gixxer.com

**pics are finally back up**

 :ws:

fasternyou929 09-24-2009 03:49 AM

Dude's got some humility, I'll give him that. Can't see any of the pictures here (China blocks everything,) but I'll check it out when I get home. I bet as soon as the rag caught on the chain, he knew what was about to happen but didn't have time to react.:tremble:

I know. But there are only about 5 people here that know who she is, that;s why I didn't bother explaining.

I remember when that happened. Dano felt so bad because he was the one that showed her that method. It all just happened so fast - and all the wonderful people that have the "you're a dumbass" comments. *phew* Like, losing part of your hand ever makes you feel like it was an intelligent move??

OneSickPsycho 09-24-2009 07:17 PM

I love how instead of freaking out and going directly to the hospital, he grabs his camera and starts taking pictures of the carnage.

Sixxxxer 09-24-2009 07:44 PM

Wow...And to think I thought I saw it all...

6doublefive321 09-25-2009 12:56 AM

AquaPython 09-25-2009 09:46 AM

we had a local kid do that here about 2 years ago. i think he only lost one finger.

but what i dont get is who cleans their chain from the bottom?
if he was cleaning it at the top or near the rear sprocket he would have no problem...

anyway engine on is retarded - just put it on a rear stand and spin the wheel.

Damn straight.

How often do you get to post shit like that?

Once, maybe twice in a lifetime?

Hey, that's what I said.... Yea, I don't get it either. I've cleaned many a chain in 25+ years of riding...hmmm, maybe I'm not quite as stupid as I originally thought?
