Webbikeworld is reporting that the version 4.0 software is out. I didnt see a link on their website

Quote:

February 24, 2012 - Sena announced a major firmware update for the SMH10 intercom.

The firmware 4.0 update is expected around the first week of March.

Sena said that regular firmware updates are planned and will be a part of the continuing evolution of the SMH10 intercom (current firmware update is 3.3).

Firmware updates will provide functional enhancements for both the SMH5 (preview) and SMH10 (review) communication systems for features such as group communication, GPS and other device support.

The 4.0 firmware update for the Sena SMH10 will provide major new enhancements to the system, including:

Bluetooth v3.0: The 4.0 firmware will upgrade Sena SMH10 intercoms from Bluetooth 2.1 to Bluetooth 3.0. This provides enhanced radio power management (i.e., longer battery life) and higher data transfer rates. Users will experience enhanced performance of the SMH10 and line-of-sight communication distance of up to 900 meters.

Four-way Conference Intercom Function: The 4.0 firmware upgrade will allow four-way conferencing on Sena SMH10 systems.

Multi-point Support: GPS pairing is provided to enable users to connect to a GPS (or a Sena SR10 (review)) at the same time with the phone connection. Technically, users can attach another HFP (Hands-Free Audio Profile) audio stream overlaid to the existing HFP, which might be a phone call.

Voice Prompts: The firmware 4.0 update will provide a new voice prompt functionality in the SMH10. Voice prompts are spoken automatically in the speakers to guide the user in making choices and understanding what's happening during headset use. It will also provide utility functions, such as a battery level check and more.

Conclusion
The Sena 4.0 firmware upgrade is a major release that will provide enhanced functionality to the Sena SMH10 system. We'll be reporting on it as soon as we can!

Gee, I haven't used mine since the 3.0, did the 3.3 update, still haven't really used it, now 4.0 is almost out. WOW!! GO Sena!!

I saw that they offer some other base clamp kits... So I ordered a different one with 2 different mic boom types... the SMH-A0304

I'm hoping that with this setup I can just mount the sena on the back of my helmet to free up space due to my HD intercom system on the same side.

derf 03-06-2012 09:16 AM

There was a photo of the smh5 mounted vertically to the back of a helmet on their facebook the other day, and I think they use the same base plate

Gas Man 03-06-2012 10:09 AM

yeah that is where I saw it. If you look that's how the mount I showed is...

Motorcycle Bluetooth Headset SMH10 SMH10 v4.0 is just a firmware, not a device. Sena is supposed to release firmware first which enables users to download it, and then update the current web page accordingly along with it. In April, Sena is supposed to release a SMH10 2012 Edition with some enhancements in hardware as well.

Mr Lefty 03-06-2012 12:59 PM

also nice they'll be releasing it with mac management software

I'm still researching new comm options...

The Sena is moving up though, especially with this alternative base with the small mic.

I'd be curious to see if the cords are actually long enough for you to mount the Sena on the back of the helmet. Would you mind posting an update once you have it in hand?

Trip 03-10-2012 12:02 PM

Senate is the shit, Trace

G-Rex 03-10-2012 12:38 PM

How's the volume output with the Sena?

I wear ear plugs all the time. I'm wondering if the unit generates enough volume for me to hear over the earplugs?

I do have a set of Etymotic ER-6i earphone/earplugs that are awesome, and it looks like Sena has a base unit also that would allow me to use them if necessary.

I *prefer* just the earplugs, as they don't fatigue my ears as much as the Etymotics. To be fair, the Etymotics are fine up to the 8-10 hour point, but, well, my personal daily range far exceeds that. LOL

Trip 03-10-2012 12:52 PM

Use the speakers, volume is excellent even with earplugs.

Using earphones isn't necessary.

Yes the cords are long enough to go from the back of the helmet to the front.

Yeah I need to do this...

Trip 04-05-2012 07:46 PM

Upgraded mine and my SR10 tonight. Had to dig out the netbook, it said if I upgraded with the Mac it would only upgrade with Mac software from now on, decided not to pursue that avenue. Could of bootcamped into Win 7 but didn't feel like it.

Sena just went from being a beeping machine to a sexy woman thats hiding inside a small plastic box with blinking red and blue lights. She welcomes me when I turn her on and says goodbye when I shut her off. 4.0 just became teh shit

I thought I heard something that the newer units may have it uploaded already.

Gas Man 04-06-2012 01:15 AM

Just plug it in, you may have to update the Sena Manager as well. Then check the units software... it will ask you to push a few buttons along the way... but real easy.

Trip 04-06-2012 07:57 AM

they update pretty often, so you need to learn to at least check to see if your new unit is updated.
