I don't think age matters. There are young people that don't know or don't want to use bluetooth as well. I see some old people using new tech.

BTW I was just thinking about the bluetooth. Some people still look at the phone to see who is calling or to make a call, even with bluetooth. So he could have dropped the phone even if he had a bluetooth set on.
