Hello Winter: wrench to bike - Ultra Edition

Well it's been a month since I put the bikes up. They got a good bath, wax, and oil change.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service033.jpg

I have some mods planned for both the bikes.

Nightster Edition here

On the docket for the Ultra

Saddlebag latch inserts

cause I hate reflectors
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service002.jpg

Pop them off

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service024.jpg

Clean the latch up
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service027.jpg

Stick on the billet inserts
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service028.jpg

Much nicer

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Service031.jpg

Also added this nice tray in the saddlebag. Will be nice for my sunglasses, camera, whatever I don't want rattling around in the bag.

Maintenance items: (both really easy)
Front brake pad replacement (2 bolts & 1 pin per caliper)
Front fork oil replacement (drain plug R&R, remove dash piece to fill)

Gloss black powder:
saddlebag surrounds
horn cover
tank dash
air cleaner cover
starter cover
rear fender struts
license plate brackets

Flat black high temp powder (the powder will be more durable than ceramic, flat cause gloss will loose its shine over time & miles):
heat shields
mufflers

ceramic (gray-color doesn't matter) the exhaust pipes for an added heat barrier

This has always been the only read cosmetic mods I ever thought of for the last 2 years of ownership. Always said I might do this one day...

So I started into the bike...

All of this chrome needs to go (saddle bag surrounds, rear fender struts, plate bracket, mufflers)

Off with the parts

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project012.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project013.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project015.jpg

remove the horn cover
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project011.jpg

tank dash gone
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project014.jpg

exhaust heat shields and air cleaner cover off
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project016.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project017.jpg

Exhaust pipes off
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project018.jpg

After also doing the nightster I had allot of parts off... YIKES this is going to get expensive!

Not much to report on the Ultra.

The LED I bought from HD 2 years ago never was all that good.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project037.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project038.jpg

So I bought 2 things to try from my friends at www.superbrightleds.com

This neat little thing that comes with all the different connectors.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project040.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project041.jpg

But it ended up just looking like this square group of LEDs.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project043.jpg

So I decided to go with the other option. A 360* high powered led jobber
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project039.jpg

So here's the HD
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project044.jpg

The superbright hotness
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project045.jpg

The superbright version lights the entire lens (regardless of the pic), where as the HD one is like little LED dots.

I picked up a bunch of powder which has gavin me a proper excited state. I just need to find time to mount it up.

This really should have been posted last week, but was busy with my buds wedding and doing best man stuff for that. But...

Got some stuff back from powder.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project078.jpg

Detail cleaned that stuff, and light wax job on it.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project081.jpg

New air cleaner ring installed on the cover
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project079.jpg

Installed and even with the chrome center nut it keeps the mix of chrome/black
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project082.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project083.jpg

Starter cover done black. Never understood why they chromed (to bring attention to it) such a pointless cover.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project086.jpg

Put the center back in the tank dash. This is going to be a great chrome/black highlight piece as you'll see.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project080.jpg

Chrome gas cap cover with the black willie g skull... I think it looks great.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project090.jpg

Plus the black right against the black pearl (gray) paint.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l3...Project091.jpg

Waiting on some key parts to get the saddle bags back on and the ceramic stuff done on the pipes. Stay tuned...

I hope I never ride near enough to you to be blinded by the sun reflecting off your bike

Gas Man 02-10-2011 12:46 AM

But I'm getting rid of chrome... so that should make it better.
