Garmin users: How did you wire yours up? Here is how I did mine

Just wondering how everyone else wired theirs up? I added the hard wires to my pre-existing fused and relayed accessory system on both bikes. I realized now that I could have easily saved myself a ton of trouble if I would have just looked up how others had done it first.

The following applies to both the CBR and the KLR

I still have not cut into either bikes stock electrical system, except for the horn to provide a power signal for the relay. I wound up just going off the existing set of wires I had installed already, ran a new positive from the fuse box, and jacked into the ground wires I had already added behind the dash. Since the Garmin only uses a power and ground to supply the bike harness thats all I needed. I used a universal two prong plug so I can switch the GPS between bikes.

When kawasaki designed the KLR I think they were under the assumption that a wrist watch would be too complicated, a GPS system is way out of teh question

the 660 came with a hard wire bike mount. it's constant though, so if i leave the GPS in the cradle it always gets power... but even with the touratech locking mount... I don't leave it in there but for quick trips (a short meal with a window so I can see the bike is about it)

Power wise mine will be hard wired into a wiring system perhaps my assc switch. Not sure yet. I've been working hard on wiring in the audio side. The power will be easy compared to that.

I got the GPS mounted. I really like the location, but it hangs off the gauges which are rubber mounted so it vibrates more than I want it to (like anytime I hit a bump). I really need to go back and re-look how I mount all my accessories, I want to add a cross bar like trip has on his beemer to mount teh GPS, cell phone and electrical outlets off.

I mounted mine yesterday in about 4 mins. Will grab a couple pics soon. Waiting on a few more parts but I dive into it.

Mine runs a few days off of two AA batteries. I just pack spare batteries.

Yeah mine is mounted to my cross bar of the handlebars... it's low for me... but I tend to only really look at it when I'm in a city, or changing songs/books. The audio feedback is all I need usually.
