Ducati Monster 1100S vs. KTM Super Duke

Not really a true "vs." but my riding impressions of both.

The KTM has 30 more HP but you can't feel it on the street, my friend who has had the Duke for 3 months now did not notice my Duc's 95HP from his 125HP. The Duke is a true neutral riding position there is no weight on your hands, on the Ducati you do lean forward some and will need to use your core muscles to keep weight off your wrist but it is far, far from a sport bike riding position. If I hadn't wanted a Ducati so bad and just wanted a naked street fighter bike (sport bike engine and suspension with up-right riding position), after riding the Duke I probably would have bought the Duke, it is very easy to ride fast. It does have a tall seat but my 30 inch inseam handled it well enough. I do love my 1100S, it is also easy to ride to fast, it exemplifies the "less is more" principle. You can twist the throttle in confidence that it will not kill you. The Austrian made Duke's manual tells you how to take the entire bike apart and put it back together, my Italian made bike's manual tells you to enjoy yourself, that is almost the literal truth. :yesnod::lol: Bottom line: If you are thinking about these two bikes you can't go wrong with either of them.

What kind of mpg are you getting?

Gas Man 01-08-2010 06:16 AM

I heart the Duke!

That ducati is way sexier than the ugly duke.

I have no idea. I've only had 4 days of riding since I picked up the bike. Getting a new bike in winter sucks. :boobs:

Coming from a BUSA owner? :lmao: you dissapoint me Karl....as a fellow lover of the "ugly bike club" I can't see how you wouldn't LOVE the KTM :idk:

I've ridden both as well and would have the KTM over the Duc (as long as the KTM didn't set itself on fire as I've read they tend to do)

Been there, done that. Have the pictures and the traffic citations to prove it.

Problem is, it wasn't all that fun around here at less than ultra-legal speeds. Sent me back to riding dirt and now I'm kicking around the idea of an adventure-tourer....perhaps an orange one.

You would need a step ladder for the Adventure 990:tremble:

You ever have problems with your Duke? My buddy had one. He said it was in the shop 3 times in 3000 miles. He sold it after it left him stranded the 2nd time. He said the bike was insanely fun when it ran right, but rarely ran right.

Only one issue with a recall for water pump shaft seal and then a warranty repair for a leaking head gasket. All in all, not a bad 8k on a first model year bike. I've not encountered anyone that has had any serious issues with one.

Hmm. His was nothing but problems, bought it brand new. But I know every model has its demons from time to time.

Super Duke R...yummy!!!

Yes, you need something adventurous and orange. Often imitated but never equaled.
