Well That Was a First
Q: So when you are changing your oil on a moto, and you start the engine and oil spews all over from the filter, what do you do (besides clean up the mess?)
A: Check the old filter closely, wonder where the rubber seal went, and find that it separated from the filter and stuck to the engine. Then curse alot. Two rubber seals around the outer mouth of an oil filter does not a tight fit make. I didn't see it stuck to the engine since the filter mounts to the bottom of the S3. When I put new filters on I normally dab my finger in clean oil and wipe it around the seal - guess this is why I've never seen this happen. This was my first filter change on this bike so it was the original from the factory. |

I think just about everyone has made this mistake one time. I'm glad my dad when I was growing up shared his experience with me so I haven't had to repeat it. Its a pretty common mistake. I know a few buddies that shared there wonderful cleaning experiences with me or told me how they went for a ride/drive and pissed out all their oil.

I just did the same thing - changed the oil dozens of times and the ONE time I'm not paying attention...

I'm working at a tire shop over the summer and that is one of the #1 things they say about doing oil changes.
