Here's one similar to the tubing one I bent up for a buddy...but far more sophisticated, adjustable, and shit:
http://www.bikermart.co.uk/proddetail.asp?prod=PDSCUS08 It's not unlike the wooden one, in its operation. |
that wooden one is pretty neat, actually

That looks decent...love the price.

When I installed my shock, on the ER, I bought a couple of truck-sized axle stands and picked up a piece of waste electrical conduit. Just popped the bike up on the rear stand by the spools, stuck an axle stand on either side, then ran the conduit through the swingarm pivot. I chocked the wheel up, at what was full shock spring extension, then did the swap. The whole thing was over in less than a 1/2 hour including cleaning the bolt threads, lubricating the pivots, and Loctite.

I've been using jack stands for years, just drop a block of wood under the kickstand and use the jack on the other side, then use another one under the exhaust or pan up front. Its actually quite stable.
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photo...86_4125487.jpg The other thing I have done is to use an engine hoist with a pair of ratchet straps, then tie the front wheel to the hoist. It works, but the bike does swing, and short of lashing going every which way its not easy to stop the swinging http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._1943147_n.jpg |
I used a ceiling joist and a couple of ratchet straps, when I swapped the shock on my VFR

I didnt the cherry picker and rachetes when I changed the oil in my forks on the vfr. It was teeter totting on the centerstand some so I fill up my luggage and swung it over the rear.
