I did have to change the steering head bearings somewhere around the same time as well.... they got notchy and had a detent in the straight ahead position

How did you know when the wheel bearing went out? Slop in the wheel, noise?
I have 35k in my EX500 was thinking about replacing the bearings as they are only about 100 bucks total for the bearings and seals.
