Well, I would have to say it is from the metal being preformed to the orig. shape and the heating (slight expanding) and then the rapid cooling (contracting) of the metal causes it to flex back to where it is flexed to go. But again a small tank dent would have to much resrstance to do this but hell its worth a try. I would heat it with a 900 degree heat gun and then try to pop it back with the super cool duster spray... without melting the paint of course.
