When I installed my shock, on the ER, I bought a couple of truck-sized axle stands and picked up a piece of waste electrical conduit. Just popped the bike up on the rear stand by the spools, stuck an axle stand on either side, then ran the conduit through the swingarm pivot. I chocked the wheel up, at what was full shock spring extension, then did the swap. The whole thing was over in less than a 1/2 hour including cleaning the bolt threads, lubricating the pivots, and Loctite.
