I think it's for the computer dumb people who don't want to fiddle with settings.

both my old Viao and my Tosh have it... I use it when ever I leave my computer... that way no one can access my shit if they hack in...

my old roommate hacked my fuck'n computer... ever since then... I'm extra carefull...

Well I fel alittle better mine doesn't have that.Just a "O >>" kinda thing below the switch. The "O" is off and the ">>" is on. It's right next to the card slot. There's a little led that has an antenae looking symbol by it. I imagine this only comes on when using an outboard/add on wifi card. Who knows?
