Default 2003-2005 r6, 06-09 r6s

so, the chick wants a r6, 03-05. i threw the r6s in cuz its the same thing. i know jack shit about r6's of that year range, so i googles some forums, and they seem vs operated so i says fucks that noise out of shear principle.

it can be wrecked (minor damage as in plastics, maybe controls, but bent forks, frames, salvage titles, all are instant no go's) as she prefers to build it herself (to a point) the way she wants it.

the only real upgrades will be brake lines, probably adjust susp cuz shes like 130lbs, and a slip on. the rest will be cosmetics, so itll be a cheap lil project.

any r6 specific probs, recalls, points of interest i should know about?

a good non vs r6 forum?

plan is to find something in the next 2-3months, and then have it finished by next june or july.

if anyone sees anything in the so-cali, vegas area, pass it along, ill check it out.

Only real "issues" are the 1-2 shift...not because they are problematic, but because they get abused.

In this area, a low miles 03-04 in good shape can be had for $3k with a little careful shopping, 05's are in the 3500-4K range, but again, you can wait till the snow flies and pick one up for 25% less.......

yea the only prob being where im at, the snow never comes lol. ive seen a few in the 3k range, at about 15-20k miles, but if she gets a complete bike that needs nothing, ill try to have her wait until jan or feb to buy for the better prices

so just check usual wear n tear, like any other bike. cool. simple lol

Never had a problem with the shifter on my 05, I thought it was smoother/easier than any other shifter I've had. I thought it was the 1st generations that had shifter problems.

The engine is the smoothest 600 I've ever tried.........Very little clatter or valvetrain noise. The riding position is definitely more comfy than a 636 or a Gixxer. Fit & finish is very good.

The 05 suspension is stiffer than the 03-04. If she gets an 05 she might want to get the rear shock re-sprung, because it's very stiff for anyone under 175 (for street riding, at least).

To agree with Homeslice I also thought the trans problems were only on 99-02 models.

haha yea yours was the first thought, but theres a few around here a couple hundred cheaper(less hassle cuz no shipping) and shes not 100% cash in hand yet, hence the shop around for a month or two.

so all in all, its a pretty good bike. thats good to know. any of you guys on any r6 or yamaha specific forums that arent lame?
