Yeah for a track bike, the R6 is the way to go unless you can find a brand new gen 6r for dirt cheap or a decent 636. I would skip the years between the 636 and the newest gen.

Oh, I know it, but there's a lot to the bike itself that isn't right for me.

The '02 636 doesn't have any of the aftermarket parts I want, and it's carbed. Not low enough price for me to get the parts either.

Just keep an eye out for something like the track 600rr that arrah arrah was selling a while back. Personally I wouldnt be able to justify having two of the same bike for different purposes. Id either have the same bike with extra bodywork and a few spare parts or something thats good on the street and something good on the track.

After being at the track multiple times you might change your mind about this. A few years ago I rode to Mid-OH for the AMA races. Sunday night when I got home I had to tear the bike down (just basics, no plastic change) for a track day the next 4 days. Then put it back to street legal the next day for a group ride. Talk about a bitch.

I would LOVE to have another bike identical to the one I have now solely for the track.

Yeh it is totally your choice, however for my money I would go with a more common bike.

But for me if I had the money to have 2 bikes, Id prefer something thats going to be a little more specific to the street and something specific to the track.

Trip, give it a rest.

I know riders with all sorts of bikes... including gsxr's, r6's etc... and they thought the were the cat's ass... best thing ever... then they rode something different & were like "holy cow, you mean there's something else that's fun?"

Just cuz you think the R6 is the best thing out there doesn't mean it is.

I've ridden ALL SORTS of bikes around different race tracks, from 500's to 600's to 1000's... v-twins, I twins, I fours, thumpers etc. CR500 Supermoto to MV Agusta. There's no ONE BIKE that's the best for everyone out there.




Although I've never ridden one around the track myself, I know first han that the 650r can be turned into a very capable track/race bike. I race against them regularly in the LW classes at Loudon & am friends with people that race them... It's a little down on power compared to the SV, but not by much. They still handle VERY well and can be incredibly quick in the right hands.

Not only that, but they make great LEARNING TOOLS... more-so than a bike that you can twist the throttle on to make up for your mistakes. They wiggle around & flex a little to let you know you're not being smooth without biting you in the ass.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.
