think this is allowed on a plane?

so i'm flying to another state to P/U a bike 9/11 weekend, flyin in riding back

1100mi........lol

anyways, takin a tank bag w/ this tool

http://www.coloradocyclist.com/img/p.../parsfaws9.jpg

think it'll be a prob.

Papa_Complex 08-31-2009 07:51 AM

Unlikely. Could easily be construed as a potential weapon.

RACER X 08-31-2009 07:54 AM

sounds like i might just have to check in my magnetic tank bag, they're gonna love it when it sticks to their conveyer line.........lol

Krabill 08-31-2009 08:51 AM

I'd say "nope". I used to travel with tools all the time for work. Now the only thing I'm allowed to bring is a tape measure. You can put it in checked luggage, though.

Curb 08-31-2009 08:57 AM

try to notify the airline that you will be bringing small tools on board. and ask them what the proper procedure for that is. see what they say...maybe they can put a note on your boarding pass or you can give the bag to a flight attendant when you get on board.

yeah, i was hopping to get in and out of the airport ASAP. vs checkin in luggage and so on.

but if i do have to check in luggage, i guess i can put my carry knife in there as well......

but i am worried about the magnetic part.....

Particle Man 08-31-2009 09:37 AM

Dude, I can't even get through with my "space pen" without causing a scene.

I also don't recommend checking bags these days (I've got at least 3 bags floating around the ether after the past several years of frequent air travel). Can you fed-ex it to yourself somewhere?

Where you flying into?

RACER X 08-31-2009 10:17 AM

i'm meeting up w/ CastorTroy so maybe i could send it to him.

Raleigh/Durham, NC

unknownroad 08-31-2009 11:06 AM

Only a terrorist would ask a question like that :nono:

RACER X 08-31-2009 11:54 AM

funny you say that, before 9/11 i took this on a flight w/ no prob's.

http://www.1sks.com/store/media/emer...b-wave-bts.jpg

wouldn't let on the return flight. only cuz it had serrations......

screw boxcutters.

see, this is the stuff that makes me feel safe, really. Inconsistencies in our airport security.

For example:

I never ever ever take my Sony e-reader out of my bag, just my laptop. In the many many airports I have flown out of, it's never been a problem... until Jacksonville. THEY make me take that, plus my cell phone out of my bag. Um, yeah. Inconsistency.

Homeslice 08-31-2009 12:13 PM

You're riding a bike you've never rode before 1,100 miles? Ermkay......

There are no Busa's closer to you?

Well you have ridden one before, right? Or at least sat on one? lol

Nice looking ride, but not only has he changed front & rear spring rates, but he added an aftermarket dogbone too. So you have no idea how it's gonna ride. What is the weight difference between him & you? I've bought a couple bikes from people who customized their suspension, and riding it home was a horrible experience......Complete pogo stick, lol.

RACER X 08-31-2009 12:30 PM

yes i've ridden a busa before

within 10-15lbs of each other.

$2k akra full exhaust
heli bars
S.S. brake lines
+ labor to do springs...........cha ching........having had it done before on the VFR

+ a road trip across the SE part of the country, priceless..........lol

It's bad enough when someone 'customizes' the suspension for their weight. Finding out that someone tossed $2K+ at their suspension and ended up with something worse than stock.....

Homeslice 08-31-2009 12:36 PM

What was the 1" rise dogbone for? I mean, if he installed heavier springs for his weight, he shouldn't have had to raise it with a dogbone. Unless maybe he wanted quicker turn-in or something......But I would check a Busa forum to see if that's actually a common mod.

RACER X 08-31-2009 12:43 PM

on a busa, the common mod is lowering it........lol

karl_1052 08-31-2009 12:43 PM

Buy the tool there.:?:

It sucks that the planes are aluminum, or else you could play "Lets see if the magnetic tank bag can hold on at 560mph". :D

RACER X 08-31-2009 12:45 PM

thats too easy...........

then i gotta buy a pocket knife, too lol

Don't forget giving it the wheelbase of a garbage truck.

Ed, who makes that 1" raised spacer?
I would love to raise mine and inch in the rear.

RACER X 08-31-2009 12:57 PM

i'll find out for ya, he's got all the receipts.

dude's done alot of lil things.....

Did I mention it has 1" mirror extenders for the color matched mirrors, 1" raising link in the rear, 45 tooth rear sprocket and a speed-o-healer? Adjusted via GPS for proper correction.

i think i l ike the rearset area to be black, but i like the blue, passenger footrest.

i'm so-so on the blue side fairings........

EpyonXero 08-31-2009 02:01 PM

Start small. You sure you can handle that?

I never take it out of A. B and C are useless. They pulled timing and fuel, basically taking away all throttle response.
It stays in A, even in the rain with bald tires.(I have only had one incident)

I find the only time the throttle is too sensitive is when you are riding in 1st gear, and you are going over bumpy pavement.

derf 08-31-2009 06:55 PM

I got in trouble for a parachute knife, which is designed not to cut anything except rope...

Ed,

Just UPS whatever you want to "carry" to me

I flew down to florida to pick up the RT...the guy gave me a helmet, but I UPS'd several "items" to him for my 883 mile trip back in the rain

Oh, then you're good to go (as long as you're not black). If you can chill until some 90year old white woman is coming up then you'll be able to walk through as 10 TSA screeners grope and violate her. No TSA screener is going to risk their job by searching a muslim unless there is a tick tock sound coming from their stomach.

HRCNICK11 09-01-2009 05:37 PM

Ship to a local fedex with Hold for pick up. Ship it to yourself cause they require ID for you to pick it up. I do it all the time for work cause the Auto plants would loose my tools and parts if I shiped direct to them.

Pick up the bike swing by fedex and pick up your bag then your good to go.

Particle Man 09-03-2009 10:07 AM

but price fed ex first - it may just be easier and cheaper to pick one up where you're going and e-bay it after.

RACER X 09-03-2009 10:30 AM

ordered one of these

https://tandtuniforms.com/shop/catal...can%201200.jpg

i should be able to fit my gun/knife/bike tool/rocket launcher in there , and just be able to check that in, and take my tank bag w/ "allowable" things on-board.

Ed,

I have a tank bag you can HAVE...a nice one! The motard and the RT both have plastic tanks.

And that pelican case will be too tough to take back on the busa..so you can leave it with me :dribble:

Sure are. I've got two of the bigger ones for my camera gear.

RACER X 09-03-2009 11:26 AM

would walmart carry TSA approved locks?

and Pelican made a lock that was TSA approved, and would tell you if they had been in there, any others out there like that? where to get it?

Papa_Complex 09-03-2009 11:45 AM

They list a couple right on the TSA site:
