Phone Call Delays Flight To Houston
AirTran Flight Delayed 2 1/2 Hours

POSTED: Wednesday, November 18, 2009

ATLANTA -- AirTran Airways says a flight from Atlanta to Houston with more than 70 passengers on board was delayed when a passenger refused to end a cell phone call.

AirTran spokesman Christopher White told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Flight 297, a Boeing 717, was taxiing on the runway in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon when a crew member asked a passenger to turn off his phone.

White says that after several failed attempts by the crew member to end the conversation, the captain returned the plane to the gate.

White says the passenger complied when he was asked to get off the plane. He says no charges were filed, and that the plane departed for Houston 2 1/2 hours later.

and another

"CrackerOfTheWhip 15 minutes ago
I was on a flight like this from Orlando once; stupid woman actually threatened the flight attendant while we were taxing down the taxiway, they turned the plane around and the FBI dragged her stupid butt off the plane. Amazing how stupid some people are."

CasterTroy 11-18-2009 08:33 AM

I wonder how much trouble (if any) another passenger would get in for taking his phone and crushing it?

karl_1052 11-18-2009 09:20 AM

They should definitely charge him.

Or pay each of the passengers their hourly wage for the 2.5 hours they had to wait. That would smarten this idiot up.

Rider 11-18-2009 09:22 AM

Throat punch FTW.

azoomm 11-18-2009 09:30 AM

What the hell?? How does this take THAT long? How does someone NOT get involved?

z06boy 11-18-2009 10:53 AM

That's BS and people like that deserve a smack down. That would get old really quick.

Tmall 11-18-2009 11:20 AM

I would have peed on him, or rubbed my dick on his arm. Inconsiderate prick.

Sheesh! People and their phone calls.

I was waiting in line in a washroom in Macy's on the weekend. Heard a phone ring. No one in line is trying to answer their phone. Then hear the "hello' from the stall. I said "you have GOt to be kidding me". So while there was a huge line up of people waiting.....this woman had a casual conversation....in the bathroom stall! I'm no germophobe but shnikeys!

Tmall 11-18-2009 11:31 AM

Somewhat related, I had a lady cut me off because she was on her phone. When I can to the next light, she happened to be behind me. I also happen to have a loud exhaust.

Well, I banged the bike off of the limiter while staring at her until she got frustrated and hung up.

You wanna play inconsiderate? I guarantee you, I will always win.

One of my all time favorites.

CrazyKell 11-18-2009 12:04 PM

Totally off topic:

I've never seen Full Metal Jacket but my father asked me if he'd like it and if I knew anything about it. His father was a WWII vet and he enjoys army movies. I recommended it.....glad to hear it's spoken of so highly. :)

z06boy 11-18-2009 12:08 PM

It's a little 'dark' but to me...a very good movie.

Probably THE best war movie ever produced. It follows them throught the hell of basic training, then to war. Awesome movie, best war movie in my collection.

Homeslice 11-18-2009 12:13 PM

So 2.5 hours of everyone's time got wasted, plus probably $20-30K worth of airline salaries and jet fuel, and they didn't charge him? I don't get it.

wow. I wouldnt have been so patient. come to think of it, my first words as a pissed off passenger would be hang the hell up NOW or its going up your ass.

101lifts2 11-18-2009 04:09 PM

Maybe the guy wanted to get off the plane shortly after the call was made? That makes the most sense.

njchopper87 11-18-2009 04:52 PM

I don't understand how he stepped off of that plane alive.

Also, Full Metal Jacket was an awesome movie.

It won't happen.

Heard a story on the radio today that 1 day ago in 2002 after the 9/11 attacks a guy forgot his camera in his car and ran to his car to get it. He then realized that he would miss his flight so he ran backwards on the escalator where people are getting off. Police chased him and couldn't find them so they evacuated the entire airport into the parking lot and searched everything. They sent out empty planes because they had other scheduled landings.

They found the guy and arrested him to only fine him $3000. Fucker caused millions of dollars in delays and such and he only has to pay $3000. By the way it was over a UGA football game that he didn't want to miss.

They shoudl DB Cooper people like that.

DB Cooper is one of my all time favorite bad asses but lets not forget if he survived (and I like to think he did) then he made a ton of money.

They probably could have kicked the living shit out of him and thrown him out on the tarmac everyone on the plane probably would have pulled a 'I must have been looking the other way and missed it'. That's what should have happened.

There's so much hostility for the people doing these things... personally, I'd be more pissed at the airlines and "Homeland Security". Srsly, a cell phone? Just fly the fucking plane.

I realized on my last flight that I'd left my phone in my carry-on bag and forgotten to turn it off. And yet, the plane somehow managed to not fall from the sky! :willy:

Because if anyone were to grab the idiot's phone and turn it off they would be sued for any number of reasons and the really sad part is he would probably win the suit.

Rangerscott 11-21-2009 12:24 PM

The airline company should send him their gate fee since every airline is charged by how long they stay at the gate.

Tmall 11-21-2009 04:00 PM

All seriousness here. I would have sat by him and made way too much noise for him to hear anything, and likely would have found myself kicking his seat.

If there's one thing I'm good at, its sinking to somebody's level and beating them with their own game.

Passive agressive FTW :rockwoot:

Tmall 11-21-2009 04:10 PM

Its always been my opinion that you have to set off the "touch me and ill sue types." before you can really have fun with them. Make them the aggressor and the ball is in your court.

So yes, passive aggression ftw!

yes it can be fun just slightly egging them on untill they become the agressor, then its on :rockwoot:

I wanna know who he was talking to, and was it worth an asskicking?

Rangerscott 11-22-2009 12:00 PM

What sucks is, its a privilage to be able to use your phone will in the plane. Eventually they may install scramblers and when the day comes when a cellphone is needed for an emergency it's gonna be a very bad day.

A buddy of mine will interject himself into a phone conversation if we are in a restaurant and someone is talking loud on the phone. For example if you heard someone on the phone going "So are we going to Ron's tonight?" he'll just yell out "Yeah, Ron's sounds great but let me see what Jim is doing. I'll bring some chips and dip regardless".

Still Nextels are the worst and everytime I heard "Beep Beep" I just want to punch babies.

Papa_Complex 11-24-2009 03:19 PM

Three little words:

No.

Fly.

List.

I love when people do that. I flush the toilet several times to make sure the person on the other end of the phone hears it. If I'm on the shitter and someone takes a call, I try my damndest to let loose a loud fart or even shart if I can pull it off. If I can't get those to work, I'll belch extremely loudly.

Unless he can prove that he lost some "major business deal" as a result, I don't see what he could win.

Hope it was before they wiped.

Still had to carry it out of the stall. There's a reason why I carry a bottle of hand sanitizer or alcohol wipes on the job.
