Killing a hamster is all the punishment he got? I would of took out the louisville slugger and hit that sucker to the moon in a second over the trouble I got in for bad grades.

defector 01-21-2010 06:56 PM

Wait until she finds out he has wire hangers in the closet.

OneSickPsycho 01-21-2010 07:07 PM

I wonder if this would have been an issue if he had a pet chicken and they ate it for dinner? I mean, killing the thing with a hammer is a bit messy and could be potentially cruel (if it took more than one swing), but it's a fucking hamster.

yep, it's a fucking rodent. It's not worth a "wow." Microwaving a cat isn't even a "wow." Chopping someones head off, now that's a "wow."

The lady is getting her punishment and will learn from it. She isn't some psychopath shooting up a school. I care, just not that much about this one.

I agree the thing is just an animal, but I'm wondering why killing the little rodent was punishment for the kid? The kid was probably....fuck yeah now I don't have to feed that worthless thing. lol

Kerry_129 01-22-2010 01:40 AM

That's a very jacked-up psychotic thing to do to the kid, no doubt. And it was obviously potentially very cruel to the rodent if it wasn't quick - but any more so than rat poison, or a trap that doesn't always break the neck, or being stuck until starved to death? Probably not, and the animal cruelty charges lack a little common sense & perspective, IMO.

Edit: Then again, the POS "Mom" does deserve the book thrown at her - and the kid taken away (though that can end up even worse). :td:

tommymac 01-22-2010 04:46 AM

And she was already on probation:td: still a prety fucked up thing for the kid, I can see taking it away from him or something but forcing him to kill it is prety extreme.

He could, but he could also take this life lesson and become one of the most outspoken people for animal cruelty as well.

Having a pile of shit as a Mom definitely has its disadvantages either way.

Maybe Trip, but we shouldn't strive to raise our children through attrition and sociopathic behaviors.

I killed many a squirrel, bird, rabbit, and other forest creatures for fun with a 22 or pellet gun along with everyone I hung out with. Yet, there isn't a serial killer in the bunch.

There is a difference here as well, the kid didn't have a want to kill the animal, he was forced to do it.

Are you just playing devil's advocate or do you honestly not see the difference in being forced to kill what you consider a pet or hunting rodents with a BB Gun? I mean, it seems like you do since you state "there is a difference." Yet you're comparing the two like they have anything to do with one another.

Trip 01-22-2010 09:15 AM

Of course there is a difference, that's why I said that. The serial killer thing is associated with kids who go around killing pets/animals because they want to do it because they like it. This kid didn't kill his pet because he wanted to do it, he was forced too, huge difference.

Rider 01-22-2010 09:18 AM

Get better grades you little shit. You want to be a fucking moron like 99% of the people on the planet? Killing the hamster isn't cool but I can think if a way better and harsher punishment like having to read the dictionary and encyclopedia for 2 hours every day until his grades improved to 3.5 gpa.

Some serial killers are born, some are made.

Seriously doubt that's how this ends up for this kid...but that doesn't stop me from wanting the Mom to get a prison sentence.

Kerry_129 01-22-2010 09:20 AM

To a human considering the ethical ramifications there's certainly an arguable difference.

But to the creature being killed, quick & easy vs. painful & slow is about the only thing which is of meaning to it.

I watched my Hamster eat the heads off her offspring...I don't think the "pain and suffering" of a Hamster is all that relevant to the conversation,

Fuck the kid up more than living with a sadistic Mother? Nah, I doubt it. Losing a parent sucks...unless that parent has serious mental issues.

That big a deal compared to...Haiti? No, not that big a deal. Still an interesting story and still a fucked up mother.

Not really what I was asking. My question is more related to your assertion that this or that isn't a big deal. Are there any big deals in the world?

I didn't say Haiti wasn't a big deal. I said "fuck haiti." A kid being forced to kill a hamster isn't something that surprises me and not all that much of a concern for me.

There are a lot of big deals in my world, but they wouldn't make very much sense in your world as we don't live in the same region or know the same people IRL.

Agreed, and kinda my point - though I do disagree with inflicting needless malicious suffering on any creatures, often Ma Nature dishes out far worse just in the course of cycle-of-life shit. Hell, just watch a NatGeo flick of lions chasing down a baby wildebeast & eating it guts-first! I think people sometimes get carried away with labeling some acts as 'cruel and inhuman' without stopping for a moment to consider the reality of what goes on in order to keep all us non-vegans fed.

Honestly, I'm not shocked by the story. I think it's effed up and don't share your sentiments, but I'm not shocked by it.

I think it's sad that we're not more shocked by this stuff. I think it's pathetic that as a society violence and sociopathy (because that's what this is) has become so commonplace that anyone who is shocked by it is considered to be "sheltered". :idk:

But that is what human nature consists of. If you don't understand how humans work, and you're a human yourself, then yea...you're sheltered. There's nothing wrong with recognizing the bad parts of humanity that have always existed.

You took part in something that was cultural and social. What he was forced to do was secretive and anti-social. Do you not see the difference?

z06boy 01-22-2010 11:52 AM

Yes I think this was wrong and totally cruel and ignorant of this so called mother.

Hunting and/or shooting rodents in a tree is totally different.

This Hampster to many was just a rodent BUT to this kid...it was his pet..from the way I understand it...and for this mother to make him kill it for punishment is fvcked up beyond belief.

No I don't see this having anything to do with the kid growing up to be a serial killer at all but it was still a very cruel and stupid thing to do.

Take the Hampster away from the kid as a form of punishment...sure...no problem with that but to make him take a hammer and bash it is mental abuse for the kid imho.

Captain Morgan 01-22-2010 12:03 PM

The mom probably read a book that said to take away the thing most valuable to the kid. Maybe she tried taking the hamster and it didn't work and the kid was still being a shithead. So she decided to make him kill it. Then he called social services on his mom. And that's how we found out about the story.

We just lived in a much smaller bubble without the internet. I believe anyone who lived in a war torn area has accepted heinous acts as commonplace before the tech boom. Our bubble has gotten larger to include such things.

Who says I am cool? I certainly don't... It's just not something that worries me. I got more important things to worry about than a mom that is in trouble for doing something retarded.

She should have let the hamster go around a cat. Then once the cat kills the hamster let a pit bull loose. Once the pit kills the cat you let some old Chinese lady around it and then BAM! Dinner is served and your kid got one hell of a lesson about the food chain.

Killing a hamster shouldn't be illegal IMO no matter if you told your kid to do or you did it yourself. Now if you would like to go around arresting people for "putting their children through physcological trauma" as in killing a pet, then that opens up a very slippery slope; one our government should not take unless the child is being physically harmed.

The point is that killing a hamster (I don't care how you do it) shouldn't be illegal. There is really nothing to get.

From some of your posts it would seem that you care more about your fucking dogs than about human beings. God put souls in humans..not animals.

We are discussing whether the charges brought against this mother are bs. or valid. Either you think so or you don't. I for one think the charges are bullshit as the government is again overstepping it's boundaries.

Whether you think what she did is moral, sadistic or cruel is purely subjective and to state someone doesn't "get it" because they don't agree with you on a subjective matter is assinine.

So by your logic, setting a trap for a rat is akin to forcing a child to smash a pet with a hammer.

I didn't say you didn't get it because you don't share my opinion. I just agreed with the sentiment because, well, you don't get it.

Abuse can be physical(beating) or psychological.
This is definitely the latter, whether you agree with it or not.

It isn't the same thing. I never said it was. I said it should not be ILLEGAL. Maybe you don't get it.

Again I never said it wasn't abuse...I said that it should not be illegal.

People are abused ALL THE TIME. It's life, YOU deal with it, not the government unless it is taking away your right to freedom.

Then why would you quote Kelly and say "spare us, like you wouldn't set a trap for a rat" as an argument? Do you often make senseless arguments?

Wait, don't answer that.

To your new point, child abuse shouldn't be illegal.

And I don't get it.

sherri_chickie 01-23-2010 10:21 PM

Btw it is illegal to psychologically abuse a child, every bit as much as it's illegal to physically abuse one. And it is everybit as damaging to the child.

Is there a child out there who hasn't been psychologically abused by their parents. From what I hear, that's half the fun of parenting.

1. Kill a hamster / kill a rat. Same difference.
2. Making a kid kill a hamster is not child abuse IMO. If you think differently, so be it.

Name one....unless you are threatening the kid without actually touching him.

And this is where I'll stop arguing with you. Not because you're right, but because teaching you common sense would be harder than describing a rainbow to a blind person.

You have not once argued with me on this subject, so don't give yourself any credit. The only thing you have brought to the table was "you don't get it" and "teaching you common sense would be harder than describing a rainbow to a blind person". If you don't want to rationally discuss topics with me without making constant belitting comments, then don't reply to my posts. I don't want to hear it anymore pal.

Ok, so argued isn't the right word. I spelled out exactly why "you don't get it" and you reaffirmed it by saying "Making a kid kill a hamster is not child abuse".

If you believe forcing a kid to smash his pet hamster with a hammer isn't child abuse, there's no rational discussion to be had with you.

Absolutely agree.

I think the degree/relative 'animal cruelty' can be argued all day long, but there is no rational argument against what that mom did being an extremely eff'd-up, psychologically abusive crime to commit against that poor kid. :td:

Avatard 01-24-2010 01:57 PM

Telling a child to kill something he has "parented", cared for, and perhaps loved sends the most horrific messages about what a mother is capable of here. The psychological crime against this child should be obvious to anyone with a fucking brain.

The mother did it becuase the kid didn't get his grades up...she probably ran out of options and thus taking something he loved (whether it be a rodent or his PS3 in not relevant) away permanantly. Sounds more like obedience training than abuse to me.

I would have gotton my ass kicked for shit grades....but that option would have def. landed her in jail.

If the kids grades still don't improve the dog is next...with the chainsaw!:lol

OMG think of the children!!!! Where is Pauldun.

I'm sure the kid had far advance notice that if you don't get ur fuckin grades up the hamster is going to go. The hammer was just icing on the cake. :lol

It's pretty easy to see what bad parenting can do...

I'm guessing you not only weren't really properly held as a child...but that in fact, you were dropped...often....and on your head.

Searching around the net, the story may not be all it appears to be. Apparently it was a gerbil and there is some question of trustworthiness of the child and mother about what actually happened. Just your typical fucked up family.

Apparently the child told a teacher what "happened" and the police are still trying to verify the truth and the reporters ran with what the kid said to the teacher.

You want the kid to get good grades or not?:lol

Maybe the kid was beyond control....maybe the mother had a bunch of loose screws. Who knows.....but I don't think the government should be involved.
