Sheriff Arpaio makes inmates pedal to watch TV
The Associated Press updated 3:32 p.m. ET, Mon., April 5, 2010 PHOENIX - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has started a program he calls "Pedal Vision," in which inmates pedal stationary bikes to generate electricity for television sets. The bikes are customized to turn on connected TV sets once inmates at Phoenix's Tent City Jail pedal enough to generate 12 volts of electricity. An hour of pedaling equals an hour of television. Arpaio said inmates only will be able to watch television if they choose to pedal. He said he started the program with female inmates because they seemed more receptive. Arpaio said the only exercise female inmates have been getting is speed-walking around the tent yard. He said Pedal Vision gives them a reason to get moving and a way to burn calories. ___ Information from: KNXV-TV, http://www.knxv.com/ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36181192/ns/business/ |

It's a start...I'd still prefer to see some form of community service oriented chain gangs, though.

yep it's all for the attention. let's make him stop and give his criminals wall to wall carpeting, ac, tv and every other convenience they want right now. I mean seriously they need to be rehabilitated to a life in which they enjoy all the finer things in life.
who cares if it's for attention, it's jail and it probably feels like jail there. hooray for him. oh and if he runs for homeland security i'll vote for him. i'll even take part in his campaign as long as he can promise that illegal aliens will no longer be able to rape our welfare/medical/ and social systems. unless of course they pedal to produce electricity to power lights in the operating room. |
Let me guess: Election year?

Joe ain't perfect, but he does his job better than any other elected official that I know of. His haters make me laugh, they drop race cards left and right whenever they froth at the mouth about how much they hate him, you should see the comments sections in the local news sites.
The Feds are all over his ass too, and have been for years, so I'd imagine if they had any REAL dirt on him, they'd of made their case by now. Holder has a real hard on for Joe too. This is the same kind of bullshit like the Navy Seals getting brought up on UCMJ violations because a fucking terrorist got a fat lip in the process of apprehending him. Joe ain't going no where, except maybe the Gov's office. I've lost count how many times he's been re-elected... |
I'm a fan of Sheriff Joe. He's interjecting a little common sense into this world. Like making the inmates stay outside in the heat in tents. If it's good enough for our soldiers...

Edit: I didn't want to agree that you're an idiot who can't read until I pointed out that IF sheriff Joe gave a shit, PT would be mandatory and TV would be banned. He seems to be able to do anything else he wants to, that shouldn't be out of his control. |

thanks for changing your lines mid speech though. |

I never once changed anything. I said, "I used to like him. NOw I think he does it for attention". You read that and came to the conclusion that I was saying prisoners should be treated better than regular citizens. You put 2 and 2 together and came up with trigonometry. That's your fault/problem. |
Let's see, if they have to pedal to watch TV, it saves the county $$. It's also a green solution. Not bad. Is he still making them work on roadside chain gangs, wear b/w stripes, etc.? I think he rocks. If you don't want to be in his jail, don't do the crime.
