The volcanic ash cloud crippling European air travel is making its way across the Atlantic and could reach the east coast of Canada as soon as 12:00 GMT Monday, forecasters at Britain's meteorological authority said.

A projection of the cloud's movement showed the volcanic ash reaching the island of Newfoundland in the early morning and lingering there at least until 18:00 GMT.

"It does suggest that the remnants of the volcanic plume may be appearing near the Newfoundland area," said forecaster Bob Syvret.

He said this was likely the remnants of the first eruption Wednesday, which was carried over on an area of high pressure. Winds took most of the ash cloud east.

That stupid 2012 movie didn't say that the end was going to start in 2009 and take 3 years to complete.

Cutty72 04-19-2010 08:42 AM

This shit better clear up in 2 weeks. I want to go home, not be stuck in this hell because some stupid ass volcano decided to spit up in the sky.

It has trapped a few of our guys in Germany and at home.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification.

Papa_Complex 04-19-2010 08:46 AM

I was thinking about when the earthquakes started to make the news. We could always run it back to the Boxing Day Tsunami though. Damned end of the world is taking forever. I want my Rapture, dammit!

Probably, but that date would be sometime in Aug.
I am one of the lucky ones that gets to cut my deployment early, provided the volcano doesn't fuck us.

At least we'll never blow up a rocket by screwing up a conversion.

What, too soon?

It always starts small. A comment on a volcano or earthquake, at first. Next thing you know you're referring to your speed in Knots and riding with weather radio playing on your MP3 player.

I wouldn't advise that. He might change the ash to locusts, just for shits & giggles. He's a bastard that way, especially after he's gotten into the wine.

the chi 04-19-2010 03:03 PM

I'll invite him to the wedding and provide free wine...

Then he'll have your wine and the cake will be eaten by locusts. Aren't you paying attention?

Besides, you could give him bottled water and he'd have wine.

the chi 04-19-2010 03:08 PM

Well, dammit, I guess I'll just pout then, Im sure even he's not immune to that one...

Papa_Complex 04-19-2010 03:12 PM

I'm betting that Mary Magdalene had a wicked pout.

Cutty72 04-19-2010 03:14 PM

This is crazy, we have guys stuck in Germany and in the states, but my Aunt was just visiting in Spain, and she had no issues flying back. odd.

sherri_chickie 04-19-2010 03:28 PM

I think it depends on the route the plane flies. They have to reroute everyone around the ash. Ash can be VERY nasty to the engines!

Maybe not soon enough. When was the last time your space agency built a rocket to go in to space?

No Canadian rockets = nothing to convert.

We don't waste maple trees. If we did, we'd be low on maple sugar.
