Darwins law in action
|
Planks for the chlorine in the gene pool.
Love the comments "I thought this was going to be a story about pirates" |
Anyone want to take bets that planking is the next olympic sport.
|
If he planked all the way down, he gets style points.

At least this dumb ass "trend" is in Aussie Land. We have enough stupid shit going on here.

Seems to have started in Japan with some girl who wanted to out do "flying girl", in going viral. If the 'taking pictures of yourself while falling off a balcony' trend takes off, then we'll certainly have dealt with the population pressure issue.

Look, there's always at least one "worst case scenario". You know; the guy that manages to gouge his eye out with something as safe as a spoon.
Even the head of Segway managed to prove that yes; you can kill yourself even on a fucking Segway. The great irony would be if historically he proves to be the only one. I think it's pretty safe to say that you can take just about any activity, no matter how inherently safe, and someone, somewhere, eventually will find a way to kill themselves at it. |
Threads like these make me wonder how many of you actually understand what Darwins Law really is.

And it doesn't just have to do with evolution.....There's Social Darwinism as well. As in, stupid people should be allowed to kill themselves off. |
Fucking Planking... really? F'in stupid!!!
|
Looks like a sausage sandwich or a way to be gay and people still think your straight.

Like I said, you have no idea what 'Darwinism' actually is. Social Darwinism is a recent term that has nothing at all to do with the theory that Charles Darwin put forth. Its uneducated fools who used the term for something that actually has nothing to do with the concept in its original form. |
Please explain the Darwin awards.
Thanks. |

A modern term that has nothing to do with the actual theory as presented by Charles Darwin. I didnt say it wasnt a common term, I said the idea of Darwinism as presented by folks on the internet is a fallacy, and doesnt mean what the term was really intended to mean.. Jesus, its like grade 6 biology. |
Quote:
Look up Social Darwinism to see why I mentioned it. It's a political/sociological concept that has nothing to do with evolution, so I'm not even sure why you went there. :?: I guess maybe it's because I also used the phrase "Darwin's Law" or "Darwin's Rule".......But I used it in the same way everyone else uses it -- To describe an idiot who owns himself by doing something stupid. This isn't biology class, it's a fucking motorcycle board.....we don't need to be accurate about what Darwin actually meant. It's a pop culture phrase which is used quite regularly, at least down here. And you really think you're the only one who knows how evolution works? You must think people are really stupid if you think that they see the word "fittest" in the phrase "survival of the fittest" and assume that it means that the most athletic animals survived. It's just a fucking phrase, dude. |
Oh Slice, let him have his moment. He thinks he's teaching us. It's cute.

natural selection and origins of the species:rockwoot:

As for Social Darwinism, I KNOW what it is, and like I stated, it has nothing to do with Darwins theory on evolution and survival of the fittest. As i've said, the whole 'Darwin Awards' thing is just stupid, and makes no sense if your comparing it to true darwinism. And I know Darwins theory has nothing to do with athleticism, I pointed that out earlier. But Darwins theory points to the idea that it takes far more than brains for most species to survive. It has nothing to do with intelligence, some of the dumbest species in the world are also the hardiest. And that is why the whole Darwin Awards thing makes no sense. |

No, im not teaching, I know most of you, you especially, refuse to learn anything or admit that anyone else could teach you anything. Perhaps you even do know the difference between actual darwinism and the topic of this thread. Nothing irks me more than than someone using a term to describe something totally different than what that term actually means. If they were called the 'Idiot awards' or 'Dumbfuck Awards', or the 'People who got what they deserved awards', i'd be all for it. But I hate the fact that the legacy left by a brilliant biologist are these so called 'Darwin Awards', when his research is some of the most important in our history and was the start of our research on genetics, yet instead everyone equates it with that shit. |

Intellectual Darwinish: Survival of the less stupid.

The "adaptation" in this case, or "thick heavy coat" to use your analogy, is intellectual ability; the lack thereof (what we modernly refer to as being a dumbass who is just taking up space and wasting oxygen) is the lack of adaptation to the needs of the environment (in this case, an environment containing high-rise buildings with a high floor balcony). To continue your analogy, the individual can be big and strong but lack that "big heavy coat" of intellectual ability lead to the environment winning the battle (i.e. he fell off the balcony because he was an idiot). I did a position paper about this in college as a Biology major which was much better worded than the above, however, my head hurts so this is the best I can do right now. |
I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head there Particle...
What I wanna know is where did something like "planking" actually get enough attention to become something people wanted to do? You couldnt pay me to lay down and let other people pile on top of me, nor have I any interest in being that close to someone else's ass. Drugs or alcohol must have been involved... |

OK maybe even the "best" people make mistakes or do stupid things when they're drunk or having fun, but one could make the argument that if they possessed superior breeding & genetics, they'd be less likely to do stupid shit. You can't argue with the fact that many mental/personality attributes are passed down by your parents. |

Within a few weeks, the studio pulled the movie from theatres and edited that spot out. :td: I heard only Australian copies still have that scene in it. |

APOC doesn't understand that intelligence is needed for survival as much as a fur coat is in most cases.
Humans have abandoned all other adaptations in favor of intellect. That is how we survive and dominate. |
Goats that have enough fear of heights not to fall off the cliff go on to reproduce.
Likewise, morons that lack the fear of heights necessary to keep from doing a pike into the turf below their balconies, DON'T. |
Quote:
Those born with physical and mental handicaps and genetic defects who otherwise would have been taken out by nature early in their lives can now live for a long time. They can also breed which, according to Darwin, will eventually lead to a weakened gene pool and less ability to "survive and dominate". I'm not particularly worried about it but it should concern absolute adherents to Darwin. |
Right. It's time that we went back to the Spartan ideal where a man would be charged if he DIDN'T leave his defective child out on a rock, overnight.

all I want to know is how does lying down somewhere even if somewhat risky become interesting? who cares if someone lays down on a balcony railing? |
