Take those gas taxes and consider the following
Road miles per state
http://www.cubitplanning.com/blog/20...iles-by-state/

Population and population density
http://www.ipl.org/div/stateknow/popchart.html
http://www.ipl.org/div/stateknow/pop...atesbypopdense

GDP per state
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_GDP

Then you have to consider weather
http://www.currentresults.com/Weathe...rge-cities.php
http://www.currentresults.com/Weathe...cipitation.php
http://www.currentresults.com/Weathe...ll-by-city.php

So a state with big numbers across the board will have higher infrastructure costs and the ability to pay for those cost.
If a state fall up short, such as crappy GDP or less roads or mild weather you'll see reduced gas taxes.

One # that stuck out was Texas but it appears they are battling the issue

Our fuel tax is right in the middle somewhere, but they make up for it with their crazy property taxes.

Homeslice 05-17-2012 07:01 PM

Gee, the states with the most affluent people, the biggest cities, the best research institutions, the best arts & entertainment destinations etc. have the highest gas taxes. This is news?

I certainly would have expected flyover states to have low taxes. What does a state like Wyoming or Iowa need a lot of money for? Their population density is zilch, and most of it is farmland.

Given that California has such a wonderous population density and kickass residents, coupled with the second highest gas taxes, then why the fuck are you always so broke?

And your power grid sucks ass too.

And I hate the bands that you like...

EpyonXero 05-18-2012 08:47 AM

Gas taxes should probably be higher.

That's what I can't figure out. I figured Jersey would be in the top 10.

I guess between the refineries (and whatever close relationship oil industry has with Jersey gov) and the high taxes the Jersey government is afraid to raise taxes on gas.

There is something fishy going on over there. They don't even let you pump your own gas

We've got all the refineries plus we get ass raped everywhere else

Homeslice 05-18-2012 04:22 PM

The whole can't pump your own shit is ghey. Oregon pulls that crap too, and it's so dumb. Like I'm going to spill the gas or something? Or maybe it's some job-growth scheme to give gas-station jobs to bums.

Sixxxxer 05-18-2012 05:04 PM

It only bothers people who dont live in the state...And honestly I never got it. If every state had Full Serve gas Stations the Unemployment rate in this country would be cut in half in a Day.
