Looked at a Kanatuna today

Was on my way to pick up my daughter at daycare and saw a yellow Kanatuna 600 sitting in someones yard with a for sale sign. Stopped and looked it over. It's an 02 w/ just under 10k miles on it. Looks like it's been driveway dropped on each side. Nothing broken, just scratched up. Tires were dry-rotted. He had a list of "new" items on it, but can't remember what they all were. I remember rear brake pads and clutch cable, but the list was about 5 or 6 items. He was asking $3k, firm. If I could have haggled, I might have considered it, but I don't think it's worth my time. I need to remember that I want to buy a house first... But dammit, I want a bike, even to the point of looking at a lame Kanatuna...

Look at a used yzf600r then. A little bit quicker, better looking and still in the same price range.

Dave 09-25-2008 10:51 PM

you can find katanas much lower than that. try checking out craigslist every day. some really good deals start popping up when it gets colder out

PiZdETS 09-25-2008 11:01 PM

3 grand is your limit? Start looking here. Best place to find cheap ass bikes imo, start checking early in the morning, especially on weekends, deals go really quick.

Captain Morgan 09-25-2008 11:49 PM

Well, I don't really KNOW what my limit is. I just hate being without a bike. I go through this so often it's not funny. I can't even tell you how many bikes I've looked at this year. I don't usually post about it. I think the only reason I posted about this one is that I'm stunned that I even stopped to look at the bike. I had a Katana for my first "sport" bike. It was a decent bike, but hell, the Ninja 250's were just as fast as this fat ass 600. I think if I were going to spend 3 grand on a bike this slow, I'd just fly out to Vegas and buy DLit's 250 that he's been trying to sell. But I know that I shouldn't buy a bike. I want to, but I shouldn't. At least not right now...

Mr Lefty 09-26-2008 12:13 AM

well good luck man... one day we'll see you at the rally on two wheels.

One day. I think my first priority is to find a job in the town where my daughter is. 2nd priority is a house. 3rd is a bike. However, I keep looking at bikes.

Mr Lefty 09-26-2008 12:55 AM

 where's your daughter?

DLIT 09-26-2008 08:53 AM

Katana?? Don't do that to yourself, man. Holdout for an actual sportbike.

marko138 09-26-2008 08:55 AM

Just buy a goddamn bike. Any bike. You'll be much happier.

Terre Haute. I work an hour and a half away right now. I only work 3 days a week, but they're 12 hour days. I spend the other 4 days at my parent's house and have my daughter those 4 days. Driving back and forth, gas prices being what they are, I can't really afford a house. Yes, a bike would greatly help on gas money, but it would take a couple years to get all that money back out of it. If we had a longer riding season, I could more easily justify it.

Yeah, I know. Believe, me, I know.

Well, I will be and I won't be. I'll be happy that I have a bike, but unhappy that I spent money I really didn't have to spend.

fnfalman 09-26-2008 02:31 PM

For three grands? Sorry but I'd buy me up a used SV650 before I'd touch a Katana.

PS I thought that the late 1980s early 1990s Katana was the coolest thing ever.

What people need to know is that Cap'n's last bike was a '05 R6. Major, major, major downgrade!

Mr Lefty 09-26-2008 08:28 PM

how... did Yamaha release the 05 R6 originally in 1975?

 It hasn't been THAT long since I've had a bike. Besides, I was only 1 1/2 in the summer of '75.

And Dlit is right about the downgrade. Damn near anything I can afford to buy (which ain't much) is a serious downgrade from that R6 that I had.

Mr Lefty 09-26-2008 09:56 PM

just give'n ya shit.

and well what do ya expect... the 05 R6 was a good bike...

though have you thought about it this way... you could save enough in gas money in a year to pay for the bike if you commuted on it

No Worries 09-26-2008 10:20 PM

Here you go: http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/836151219.html Yamaha sportbike for less than $2K. Plus, it looks nicer than the '05 R6, and is way better than the Tuna.

Way better than the Tuna, yes. Better than the '05 R6, hell no. Looks cool as hell though.

Anything is a fucking upgrade from the bike he's riding now.

I'd rather ride nothing than a Tuna.

After two weeks of riding it, I would be pissed.

Maybe. But if that was the ONLY choice, you'd ride it.

WOW! That thing is brand new clean.

That TL1000 is speaking my language.

Captain Morgan 10-01-2008 01:57 PM

You guys are killing me. I've been checking craigslist a LOT lately, and have found some bikes that I really like, but know damn good and well that I shouldn't spend the money...

No Worries 10-02-2008 02:18 PM

House prices will still be dropping, so don't buy yet. But here's another great bike: http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/863675594.html. A CBR1000F for less than $2K. We could be CBR brothers, except this one has less than half as many miles as I have on mine. Plus, the 1990 doesn't have the linked braking.

Haven't read the whole thread but don't do it. Better deals to be found and you are use to a much better bike.

marko138 10-04-2008 02:00 AM

Katana. Fuck you.
