Bmw s 1000 rr

So i've read, this thing is comming standard with ohlins front springs, brembo stoppers, and the works, and is only supposed to retail a grand or so over the hyped up gixxers and cbrs of 2k9...

a new alternative to the duc? Bmw has made a name for itself making incredible bikes in other situations (enduro, dual sport, etc) can it keep up with the race bike craze?

cant wait to see it at the bike show.

also look out for Ape'gorrilia this spring. rsv4 is supposed to milk the teets of field mice when it comes to standard track operation.

Mr Lefty 12-28-2008 09:16 PM

yup yup... and BMW always had unique styling... be intresting what they do over the next 5-10 years...

I'd like to have a BMW enduro in my stable in the next 10 years...

They're fucked if they haven't fixed the screwed up air/idle stepper issue present in all of the other Transverse K's, not to mention finding a way to make a clutch basket last more than 24K miles... :idk:

Hopefully they'll have the sense to make it chain drive, not shaft or belt...

s1000rr is as conventional as it gets. normal forks, I4, and chain drive.

and i want that new ape! biaggi and nakano sure sound fond of theirs

That Beemers gonna have quite a price tag when it gets stateside...

I like the testing times, Ben Spies is looking good. Have I mentioned I endurance raced with the CMRA while Ben was honing his craft? My claim to fame...

I am really not so concerned with the outright times for now after all it is testing and not racing...The spread of a little over 2 seconds from first to 13th is pretty telling of the competition and the parity though...

SteveP 12-29-2008 02:23 PM

I hope the BMW is competitive next year.

Where did you get that info for the MSRP on the S1000r? Seems very low to me.

Those times mean nothing, those bikes are far from stock. However the stock yamaha and hondas don't come with brembo and ohlins goodies. I don't see these bikes being that cheap. I may have to get a liter bike if they are that cheap.

smileyman 12-29-2008 02:47 PM

Some 08 ZX 10s here in NWAR selling at $8999:idk: I think I could kill myself on one of them as easily as a $29,000 BMW or $15,000 Ducati:idk:

well when both bikes got mentioned i assumed we were gonna talk about wsbk, specially since thats the only reason the s1000rr exists

Mr Lefty 12-29-2008 05:12 PM

and actually... they're not as far from stock as you'd think... fuck the first couple races last year they were say'n the ducs were running pretty much stock other than plastics and tires...

smileyman 12-29-2008 05:36 PM

Well yes they are track prepped and factory optimised (balanced, blueprinted) but they main thing is you cannot compare the race times to how teh production model will run, lap, or be lived with on the street.

Testing means alot of different fuel maps, traction control settings, geometry experiments, spring and valving options. Fast time in pre season rarely carries over to race results. It just shows how hard they are working. BMW will have a potent package, Aprilia will too. But what does that me to you and me?

To me the $$ make a bigger difference than the outright performance numbers. Sure I can lap the CBR 2/10th quicker or maybe Spies can take the R1 to 4/10ths over Checa's Honda but will that mean anything to me? No. Styling, availability, how I personally fit and feel on the bike are bigger.

no fucking doubt! Spies on the new Yamaha... the new Ape and Beemer... lots of rider changes... should be kick ass... wished they'd have a round at like barber or some shit. can't make it out to Salt Lake this year ... maybe Indy may host'm... :idk:

Dave 12-29-2008 07:33 PM

well it wasn't that he chose to step down... it was that he wasn't offered a ride in motogp... :idk:

between him and spies not finding seats and Depuniet keeping his... I'm wondering what you have to do to get in or stay in MotoGP.

I'm hope'n he does well... I've always liked Nakano... dudes a work horse...

I'm hope'n Neukirchner does well again last year... he faded a bit at the end of the season... but got a lot of instruction by racing among the best last year.

Dave 12-29-2008 07:44 PM
