I'm in LOVE!
with a 9mm!
I was at the range today practicing for an IDPA shoot and was talking to this guy who just bought a new Walter PPS 9mm. We were talking for a while and he says: "Check this out" and pulls the PPS out of his cargo shorts pocket. I'm standing right next to this guy and I had NO IDEA he had it in his pocket. It was in a soft neoprene holster. The thing is a 6-1 9mm that is less than an inch thick! I was standing there talking to him and he says "try it out" How could I resist? It's tiny, almost smaller than the palm of my hand, but it's got just the right amount of heft, it feels great in your hand. It's a 3.2inch barrel, so I wasn't expecting much in terms of accuracy but in the 7 yard and 15 yard range I was putting rounds on target in groups almost as good as my S&W SV9. It might be the perfect carry self-defense weapon. So now I have to go out and get one, they are easily concealable, shoot great, and it's a Walter. I really can't describe how "right" this thing felt. I have way too many expensive hobbies. http://members.arstechnica.com/x/wan...WaltherPPS.jpg |
Nice looking gun :dthumb:
|
That's pretty ironic. My boss and I were looking at concealable guns today and this is one that he is thinking about buying. :D I have an SW9VE and I love it. It also helps that I bought it new for $280 with 4, 16 round clips. ;)
http://carnival.saysuncle.com/images/sw9ve.jpg I'm going to get my CCW this year as I have been putting it off for some time now. It's not that I want to carry concealed, as much as I like being able to have it in my glovebox or on my person on the bike and not worry about a ticket. ;) |

It's funny because I literally just finished cleaning that exact gun. It's my home defense/plinker gun. You got a great deal on yours, they're going for $350-$400 new here. |
walther makes good stuff!
|
Yeah, I bought mine back when they were running a special on them with a $50 rebate and two extra clips. ;) I couldn't pass it up. It only cost me $330 then for the pistol with case and extra clip and about 6 weeks later they mailed me a check for $50 and two more clips. I love mine, and it's pretty fucking accurate too. Only thing I don't like about it is that the trigger is a little heavy but I plan on having a local dude work it a little for me. It should be golden after that.

Hell, I haven't run maybe 4-5 rounds through mine yet! :D I love to shoot, but I simply don't like shooting pistols that much. :idk:
I've got a 22mag with Simmons scope that will damn near drive nails. I'm more into that sort of thing than the handheld end. |
I carry a Glock 23 but its damn near a full size carry.
I want to get a Glock 27. Its a UCP but shots 40 cal. |

I carry a Para Warthog which is a 1911 with a 10 plus one capacity and 3" barrel. I have a Mr. Softee holster for it that works great.

And Walthers are all dead sexy...

How's that little one feel in the hand? |

I like it more than the single stacks because the diameter of the grip is a little more chunky. The .45 thumps pretty hard so the bigger grip makes you a little less prone to limp it. I don't have huge hands so my pinky hanging off probably isn't as bad as it would be for someone with a huge palm. |
It's funny that you say that.
So many people who like 1911 style pistols are very picky about double stackers. I'm damn pleased with the grip shape and size of my Taurus PT92. I haven't had a chance to shoot it since I dumped the stock scales and put on the Pachmayr, but it feels great in my hand. |
Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not as comfortable to shoot as any full frame 1911, but I'd take it over a Glock subcompact 7 days a week just because it feels better while I'm shooting. To me it's just that much more comfortable. Maybe I'm just weird

I'll never buy another Walther again, not after the p22 debacle.

Negative, this thing was a peice of shit and a safety issue.

Funny I looked at a Glock 23 Wed. on the way home from work.

It's a toss up for which one looks sexier with a suppressor... the P22 or the SIG Mosquito |
I'd like to hear more about the P22 problem, maybe a link.
I don't like the sig safety is near the mag drop I have bumped once or twice just on the airsoft model I have. |
|
Ok I thought you were talking about the locked slide problem.
|
So I bought a Walther P22. It was supposed to be my wife's first gun and it looked cool, so we were happy. The guy at Cabella's told us it like hot ammunition, so we bought CCI stinger's and took it to the range. My buddy went with me, and this is a guy that can hit a pop can 300 yards away with an HK USP .45 consistently, so he knows guns. A couple of others came too, plus me and Ulu - seriously, everyone wanted to try this thing.
Well, the first problem was the magazine release. It dropped the magazine whenever you pulled the trigger, took us forever to figure this one out. Again, me and the other guys all own triggar-guard mag release weapons, so it isn't user error, the thing is just weird. Well, we got over that, but the gun kept fucking up. Jams, stovepipes and misfires 5-7 rounds out of ten. And the worst problem, after less than a hundred rounds we noticed the problem that made me take it back - the spring pin on the slide under the safety had started to protrude out the left side and you COULDN'T SAFETY THE WEAPON. It went bakc to Cabella's the next day and I bought a Ruger MkII which has never given us a problem. You could drop this thing out of a moving car, it's rock solid. So fuck walther, hooyah Ruger. |
You know, I loved Stingers when I was younger... but since doing some reading on RFC, I don't see myself putting them through any .22 that I give a damn about anymore.
And you should have known the Ruger MKII was the right choice from the beginning. |
Thanks ok cross off the walther. I don't know much about guns but I'll be getting one soon. I just can't decide if I want a .40 cal or a 9mm? And I really can't decide what brand though the glocks drop it in the mud and still fire rep is pointing me that way. I've also been looking at the new modular sig cause I want to get the 22lr barrel also.
|
If you want more killing power, go with the .40, if you want to shoot it a lot and don't want to spend a lot more per box of ammo, go with the 9mm.
Either way, you have a wide assortment of models to choose from, most of which are currently out of stock fucking everywhere thanks to panic buying. |
Normall I would not buy from a big box store but cabellas has lots to choose from. I still need to get my buyers permit anyway. I also need to get a small safe cause I will not have a gun in the house with out one. My step sons are good kids but still.

Sig p229 ftw

I was thinking P250 |
I sold my P226 recently to a friend in need of handgun and bought a P229R. The fucking thing is awesome, as was the 226. It's small and concealable, simple to break down, accurate beyond my expectations, and easy to fire. It has very little felt recoil or muzzle flip. Mine is a 40, not a round I generally enjoy but it's perfect for the platform and I get a decent compromise between ballistics and capacity. Mine came with night sights and two 12 rnd magazines, and I love the thing. I'll be carrying it tonight to deliver, and most likely to the rally.

its what obama carries.

I have to tell you guys that we love our Walthers My wife and I both have
P22's with a little over 15 thousand rounds through them with no difficulties beyond the ususa maintance. I should say that the majority of the time these pistol are used with a Gemtech Outback Silencer on them using subsonic ammo (usually Federal when I have to Remington) and apart fromthe need to clean more often because a Slinecer pushes gas and Dirt back into the gun they have been every bit as reliable as my ruger and far more relaible thant the Sig Misquito they replaced. That said there apparently have been some problems but the people I know with them love them. We liked them enough that my wifes carry gun is a P99 and I had the barrel on a G22 threaded and it serves as my "quieter" rifle. Based on my admittedly limited experience in a apples to apples comparison I will buy a walther before a Sig any day |
This is my concealed rig - SIG Sauer P239 in 9mm. No tactical tupperwares for me.

i thought this was going to be a thread about motards!

I want a new gun... I want a nice lil' concealed carry weapon...
|
If you ever get the chance to acquire one of these, do so. You won't regret it... :)

Then again, if you want a near perfect 'pocket gun', try one of these...

I don't know much about the H&K, but I have seen and handled the Kel-Tec and for me it's too small. I have trouble finding a good "pocket pistol" that fits my hand right. That PPS really fit, shot, and felt great. Guns are like tires or pizza toppings. Everybody has a different opinion on what is best and why. My opinion has always been find what you feel comfortable handling and shoot it as much as possible. |
