Damn, that's a bit crazy. When my 5 year old mouths off, (which is rare), I just look her in the eye, point my finger at her, and sternly say, "You do NOT talk to me like that." She immediately puts her head down and says, "I'm sorry, daddy." There may come a time when I'll have to backhand her when she's a teenager, but I really hope "the look" will be all it takes.
