I was making that point to someone earlier today. Since politics is pretty much genetic to Kennedys now, I'm pretty sure that Maria knew what was up and just bore it out with grace and dignity until he was out of office.
That's what is expected of a good politician's wife.
Now that his term was up, she's free to say 'Fuck yo couch' and bail... (provided he has no realistic chance of landing a higher office)
