The political fallout over the release of the Lockerbie bomber intensified today after the hero's welcome in Libya for Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was described as 'sickening' and 'stomach-churning'.
Megrahi arrived home to be greeted by thousands cheering and waving Scottish flags but the scene provoked an outcry from victims' families and the U.S. government.
Growing anger at both British and Scottish ministers over the terrorist's release was further inflamed after Colonel Gaddafi's son praised their 'courage' in releasing Megrahi.
Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, who discussed the case with Business Secretary Lord Mandelson just weeks ago when the two met in Corfu, said: 'This is a courageous and unforgettable stance from the British and Scottish governments. We have turned the page.'
Colonel Gaddafi is set to trigger fresh outrage later today when he is expected to publicly greet Megrahi in a carefully staged meeting in a desert tent"
