John Edwards isn't a particularly bright bulb himself, but would have had the added benefit of completely miring a second Kerry term in scandal. The possibility of Palin doing something that would create a similar effect certainly exists (like becoming President), but currently Edwards has a nice lead in the "Retrospectively Most Disastrous Recent VP Candidates" category IMO.
