Oh no not this debate again...
OMG what is the worst case scenario here? He'll get a flat. That's it, there will be no sudden tire failures or what not. He is right, the belts obviously deflected the nail and it never pierced anything but the tread that gets worn off anyway. See if you can get some rubber cement in there just for the heck of it and ride on.
