If it weren't for Lincoln bitch slapping the states we wouldn't have the 14th amendment. Prior to the 14th the States didn't have to honor the bill rights.
They are still working on getting the states to honor all the amendments.
So when someone says "States Rights" they are actually saying they miss the days when the state could fuck you in the ass.
