I raced for 5 years so most of my track days were sanctioned, but I did one "Club" track day after the race season ended.
That was a smart move as it turned out. I had to build another race bike after that day, in the 8 weeks before the next season started. I haven't been on a track in 10 years but made the mistake of going to watch and help a buddy a few times in the past year. Sort of started a low grade itch...
