I will be working tonight. After hearing the wonderful stories about how god awful busy it's been the past three days and knowing how my manager doesn't know how to put together a schedule to even remotely cover the volume coming through the ER (one person for 5 hours on Christmas, brilliant work there dickbags) I'm not looking forward to being there tonight.

I'm hoping for a chill night like it was last night. I'll have the two padawans tongith though. If it's like it was last night, me and my co worker should be able to work alot with them tonight. We both desperately need them to be ready to handle their own by the end of next week.

One I think we'll be ready, but the one I've mainly been training is iffy. She's smart as hell when I quiz her but freezes up when she actually has to apply it. Plus she's dyslexic and it shows when she's nervous so she's all over the place reading from a script. Maybe if I make her read them aloud over and over again it will help?

Have you tried talking through the script with her and giving her the opportunity to put her own spin on it? It may help her overcome the dyslexia part. Also, if you have the time (and that's always a big if, of course) keep running her through role playing exercises so that it becomes more natural for her. Or see if there are any tricks she's used growing up to help her to learn stuff. She's probably developed some ways to help her learn new concepts from dealing with dyslexia in school.

I've allowed her to listen to others to see how they read. We all have our own little spins we put on it.

I didn't think about doing the role playing bit until last night and she was off. I've never trained for this job before so she's my guinea pig. I've discussed her issues with other trainers and they've pretty much said the same thing you have so I'm going to try those ideas too. She's going to be sitting with my co worker tonight. I've discussed her weak points with him and he has a few ideas too. Hopefully between the both of us, we'll figure something out that will help her get it so she'll be ready to be on her own by the end of next week.

You never know, sometimes they have auditory dyslexia too.

I never thought about that.

She pretty much has the basics of precedures and priorities. It's just the damn scripts that seem to give her problems. When I point to what to read, she does well. It's when I don't that she gets scattered.
