I can't remember but do the older 250s take speed and odometer readings from the front wheel or the countershaft? Just wondering since that would make a difference in "perceived" mpg. Also, his tire change will also make a difference in his odometer readings. To be honest, I thought that this was a joke and that was the punchline. I don't have the math skills to calculate how big a difference his tire swap will make but it's probably significant.

prety sure its the front wheel, now would the sprocket change affect the odometer as well?

Not if it gets the the speed from the front wheel. He did change the gearing quite a bit. So I'm sure that's where most of the fuel savings is from. He has no bottom end with that gearing though.

I can't imagine how ridiculously sluggish that thing must be after changing the gearing like that.

And did he say he was going 30 in top gear?

Yea it comes from the front but you guys are very correct in the sluggishness dept! Man, why not just buy a scooter and get it over with? If your only concern is gas mileage....

Well, if he is getting 101 mpg on the vehicle he already has, why buy a different one?

He's not really getting 101mpg. Because he has larger(taller) tires his numbers are exaggerated by about 10%. Still great mileage but not as good as he is calculating.

Hmm good point, but if he bought a vehicle that gets almost 100 mpg in the first place... see what I mean? Hell, I don't know why people like this don't just take public transportation/ride a bike.
