If someone manages their money right they could do that job for 10 years and retire very comfortably. That may involve having a roommate and commuting on public transportation. If that same person wants to live in Manhattan in a nice place, own a car that is parked in the city, and eat out at good to great restaurants every night they may retire broke in 40 years.
