I don't know what is going on. Sounds important.

Anyone care to summarize for me? (sorry, I don't watch the news. I don't care if that makes me a bad American or dumb. I pay attention when I need to vote and that's it).

A republican won Ted Kennedy's old senate seat. He was a democrat that held it for 50 years or something in a true liberal state.

It gives enough votes for the republicans to start filibustering in the senate, which means the senate will stop doing the little work they did do.

I think that's up to Obama, since it's in The White House.

No, it's in the capitol. The most senior member of congress gets it by default if they want it. If they don't want it, then the next most senior member gets it. It's not dependent on party or positon, it's solely based on your time served in congress.

That being the case I think I would need to be set up with a bio-hazard suit with a bleach wash-down afterward to even consider opening the door.
