I'm all for freedom of the gun, but in this case from what is presented in the story the guy is in the wrong. NJ is a pretty anti gun stat with pretty harsh laws. I also think that we are missing something here. Why were the guns in the car? Was he planning on threatening the ex-wife? Had he made any threats in the past? Why did the police search the car?

It seems there is more to the story than what either side is saying, and the part about the moving exemption is BS. It covers you while you are moving, if you already live in the state and the guns are at your old place you are supposed to register them first, you could get off if you have moving boxes in the car, or just signed a lease and are moving them within a reasonable period of time.

......

It's not relevant. The crime doesn't fit the punishment and it is bullshit.

Who ever the fuck wants to live in NJ is beyond me. Total shithole IMO and I'm not just talking about the taxes.

It's completely relevant. Don't quote me but I don't think thats why hes in jail. If I am correct I believe hes in jail because he had possession of a gun while committing a crime. Possession of an unliscensed firearm in NJ is only 5 years max unless you are caught committing a crime, even if the gun is not used in the crime.

A buddy of mine was convicted of transporting an unliscensed rifle 2 or 3 years ago, he was fined $750 and sent on his way.

yep. and that bit about needing a carry permit to transport is BS too. yellowcard is suficient. purchase permits if you are paranoid. your ass better not be going anywhere but your house or the range though..

It doesn't say what "crime" the guy was committing other than the cops arrested the guy. And the mother is the bitch to blame for calling the gestapo in the first place.

All I'm saying is that the punishment doesnt fit the crime, there is more to the story than what we are being told. My belief is that he was caught in the act of another crime, and possession of the gun (either for the crime or just in spite of it) ups the penalty.
