I don't understand why it's a shame. Talent? Sure. But, she was a wreck. Crack whores die every day... this one was not a shock.

It's a shame when anyone isn't able to get their disease under control and it kills them. It's more of a shame when that person has a talent and has contributed something to the world, be it entertainment or otherwise.
