Clutchless Upshifting

Now I know that Rossi ,Pedrosa,et al are gods but whenever you see camera shots of their hands,they always clutch when they shift. Plus,I still don't understand why you wouldn't want to use the clutch. I mean if you have to roll off the throttle anyway,what do you gain? Please explain...

They clutch when downshifting, not upshifting though.
